St. Charles CCGT Power Station Tour

Early POWERGEN International arrivals have the chance to tour a brand new combined cycle gas turbine plant operated by Entergy Louisiana.

The St. Charles CCGT plant was completed earlier this year, began commercial operation on May 23. The 980-MW station is anticipated to emit 40 percent less carbon dioxide than Entergy’s older gas-fired power stations.

The facility’s state—of-the-art efficiencies also are expected to save Entergy customers about $1.3 billion over the anticipated 30-year life of the unit. Entergy employs about 31 people at the plant.

Over the past 13 years, Entergy has added approximately 5,900 MWs of clean, highly efficient combined-cycle gas turbine generation, allowing for the deactivation of over 6,300 MWs of older, less efficient gas or oil units.
