Description

TAG Oil has announced results from exploration well #8E-Cheal in New Zealand’s’ Taranaki Basin. The North Island venture was drilled to 2,000 m and it was designed to test Urenui, with the deeper Mt. Messenger formation as the secondary objective. The well hit a net pay of approximately 17 m of Urenui Sands and 4 m of Mt. Messenger Sands. The Urenui zone flowed at an average rate of 318 bbl of oil equivalent per day during a five-day test, with no water. According to Vancouver-based TAG, the Mt. Messenger formation is also estimated to be commercial, and will be completed in the future. The rig will be moved to drill #1D-Cheal on the Cheal East permit. TAG is the operator and holds a 70% working interest the license area.
