Var Energy has announced a discovery at the Rodhette exploration well in the Norwegian North Sea. The #7122/6-3 S encountered a 29-m hydrocarbon column in the primary target in the Middle Jurassic Sto in moderate-to-good quality sandstone. Data acquisition indicates a gas column of approximately 18 m in the well over an oil rim. Preliminary estimates indicate that the discovery is between 9 and 12 MMboe (gross). Additional testing is planned and the company will evaluate other sites near the find. The well is about 30 km north of the Goliat Field. Stavanger-based Var holds 80% interest with partner Longboat Energy holding 20%.
