Description

Petronas reported an offshore Sarawak gas discovery. Discovery well #1-Tukau Timur Deep was drilled to 4,830 meters and hit 12 gas-bearing reservoirs with total gas sands of 183 meters. According to the company, the new assessment of the field is 2.1 trillion cu. ft. of gas in place. The #1-Tukau Timur Deep is the first high pressure/high temperature well completed in Sarawak and is also the deepest vertical well that the company has drilled to date. The first of the two finds was made in Kuang North Field in South China Sea Block SK316. The #1-Kuang North and #2-Kuang North were drilled to 3,223 meters and penetrated a 636 meter gas column. The block is also the site of the Kasawari and NC8 gas fields. Block SK307 is 50/50 jointly operated by Petronas and Shell. The blocks have an estimated 4.4 trillion cu. ft. of gas-in-place. Petronas is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
