Description
ExxonMobil Corp. is drilling an exploratory test at its Thunder Horse East prospect at #101TE001 OCS G36136. According to IHS Markit, the rig is currently drilling below 7,700 ft. Mississippi Canyon Block 823 (OCS G36138) is also part of the prospect. To the west is the BP Plc-operated Thunder Horse development. In 2017, BP brought online several subsea wells just south of the Thunder Horse platform. The expansion project, Thunder Horse South on Block 822, added a new subsea production system about 2 miles south of the existing Thunder Horse platform on Block 778. Wells in the deepwater field produce through Miocene perforations at 22,000-28,000 ft. BP holds a 75% stake in the field, and Houston-based ExxonMobil owns the remaining 25%.
