El Dorado, Arkansas-based Cenco Inc. is under way at a Smackover exploratory test in Ashley County, Ark. The #1 Cook has a planned depth of 4,950 ft and it is in Section 16-17s-5w. According to IHS Markit, only two previous wildcats have been drilled in Township 17s-5w. To the north in Section 4, #1 Holmes was abandoned at 4,234 ft. To the northwest, #1 Fee in Section 7 and was drilled in 1927 to 3,654 ft. The only two commercial oil wells in the county are 25 miles southwest of Cenco’s drillsite. The Crossett field opener, #1 Georgia Pacific, was tested in 1980 flowing 58 bbl of crude per day from Cotton Valley at 3,726-36 ft.
