Description
BHP Billiton is under way at a Green Canyon area prospect, Wasabi. Up to three wells are planned on the prospect and could be drilled from various surface locations on Green Canyon Block 80 (OCS G36896) and Green Canyon Block 124 (OCS G36813). Water depth in the area is 2,400 ft. There has been no previous drilling on the deepwater tracts. The drilling rights to Green Canyon Block 124 were acquired by BHP in August 2019 for $22.5 million for the deepwater tract. Northwest of BHP’s Wasabi prospect is Beacon Offshore Energy’s Tabasco prospect where the company has scheduled a permit to bypass an exploratory test initially spud in mid-2020 at #1 (BP) OCS G36624 in in the eastern half of Green Canyon Block 35.
