Scott Gale, executive director of external engagement at Halliburton Labs, is today's featured Forty Under 40 honoree.
Although he started his energy career at Dow Chemical, Gale would later become a critical player in the creation of Halliburton Labs, where he was instrumental in bringing about the company’s SmartFleet portfolio.
"I remember when we first pitched the audacious concept [SmartFleet] to management; there were people in the room who laughed out loud. They thought it was impossible," he said. "After a couple of years of amazing work by the team, we delivered something the industry had never seen before."
As a leader in his company, Gale has learned that staying curious and open to learning is key to making a positive impact on his team. He added that leaders work for their employees, not the other way around, and recognizing this will instill a sense of trust in the team.
Gale believes that the energy industry must undergo significant transformations in approach, culture, technology and more to survive during changing times.
"The industry must continue to attract and retain the best talent. The technology that paved the present won’t lead us to the future," he said. "Achieving a sustainable energy future requires an inclusive culture, rapid technology adoption and a sense of urgency."
Outside of his work at Halliburton, Gale is involved in a number of diverse activities. He took a two-year break in college to serve as a missionary in Brazil, has done voice acting work for corporate videos, co-hosts the business podcasts “Owl Have You Know” and “Curiosity” and is actively raising funds and awareness for the Movember Foundation, an organization dedicated to changing “the face of men’s health.”
