Houston-based EnergyQuest II LLC, a portfolio company of Quantum Energy Partners IV LP, has acquired interests in 16 producing wells in Plaquemines Parish in southern Louisiana from Clayton Williams Energy Inc., Midland, Texas, (Nasdaq: CWEI) for approximately $95 million. Clayton Williams reports the assets represent about half of the company's proved developed reserves in southern Louisiana. The company reported approximately 34 billion cubic feet equivalent total proved reserves from its southern Louisiana assets as of Dec. 31, 2007. Clayton Williams has retained its interests in the Floyd, Alabama and Fleur prospects, as well as all of its holdings in other undeveloped prospects in southern Louisiana. None of the company's holdings in northern Louisiana were included in this sale. Proceeds were used to pay debt on its revolving credit facility, reducing the balance to approximately $60 million. EnergyQuest II was formed in March 2007 by Quantum Energy Partners with Wayne Greenwalt and Jerry Crews, the team from Quantum Energy Partners III LP portfolio company EnergyQuest Resources LP. In August, EnergyQuest II bought southwestern and central Louisiana assets from Houston-based Hilcorp Energy Co. for approximately $135 million. The company focuses on South Texas, southern Louisiana and the Permian Basin. The effective date is March 1.
