It's that time of year where Disney and other entertainment, amusement-driven industries start wondering how to make their stock numbers soar higher than ever before. Ah, smell the scent of the impending summer. One amusement center has already found a way to reel in the wary traveler. Most visitors to Branson, Mo., travel by car. As a result, the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB offers visitors a Gas Buster discount card each summer. This year, Branson has extended the discount card for the months of May through October in response to high gas prices. Between May 1 and Oct. 31, 2008, the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB will give a Gas Buster discount card to anyone who presents a valid drivers' license and a minimum of $40 in gas receipts. And visitors don't have to purchase gas in Branson in order to get the discount, Lynn Berry, Director of Public Relations for Branson/Lakes Area CVB, told me. (This isn't a way to try to bring more business to Branson petroleum vendors). "The gas receipts can come from anywhere in the USA if purchased up to 48 hours prior to coming into our welcome centers in Branson," Berry said. It will be interesting to see what other entertainment and amusement centers do this summer to keep visitors rolling in despite the high prices at the pump.
