Canada-based PetroTal said April 9 initial logs from an oil development well drilled in Peru’s Bretaña oil field indicate a total gross oil column of 24 m with estimated net oil pay of 18.7 m.
“The well logs provide an early indication that the reservoir is as we expected, with good oil shows in the mud logs and good indications from the full suite of logs obtained,” Manolo Zuniga, president and CEO of PetroTal, said in a news release.
The well, which is the second development well in the first phase of the Bretaña field development, is being completed as a producer in the Vivian Formation in the north part of the field, the company said. The well was drilled to about 3,040 m total depth.
PetroTal anticipates placing the well online in about one week and then drilling the BN-95-3H development oil well.
The field’s discovery well went online in mid-2018. The well is producing on average between 950 and 1,000 barrels per day, in line with expectations, the company said.
