The 2021 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) will honor Joe Fowler for individual achievement, Abu Dhabi National Oil Co.’s (ADNOC) Panorama for institutional achievement, and Russell Hoshman and Edward Heerema for the Heritage Award, OTC said Feb. 16.
The Distinguished Achievement Award recipients will be recognized Aug. 16 at NRG Center in Houston.
Fowler, co-founder of Stress Engineering Services, will be honored for “his extraordinary technical leadership in risers and pipelines, industrial leadership and entrepreneurship, significant contributions in higher education, and his substantial contributions to the societies that organize OTC,” according to a news release.
While serving as principal investigator for the American Gas Association and Gas Research Institute, Fowler accomplished achievements in offshore and land pipelines that focused on the collapse behavior of pipelines, the effects of dents on pipeline life, strength of tee and elbow fittings, repair procedures for damaged pipelines, and the development of a diverless pipeline repair clamp, OTC said in a news release. Fowler served on OTC’s Board of Directors from 2010 to 2017 and as chairman in 2016-2017.
In recognition of its Panorama digital command center, ADNOC takes the OTC Distinguished Achievement Award this year.
“Established in November 2017, the fully integrated platform provides ADNOC with the unique capability of allocating and centralizing more than 200 dashboards representing the entire value chain of ADNOC Group of 14 companies, while displaying 250,000 real-time data points from all operational sites and plants,” OTC said in the release. “The platform also provides a complete integration of data between offshore and onshore facilities.”
The platform is considered the only one of its kind in the oil and gas sector, providing AI-based analysis with complete visibility of production facilities.
As OTC’s Heritage Award recipients, Heerema is being honored for management and leadership in the deepwater’s offshore installation sector, while Hoshman is being honored for distinguished service in safety and environmental stewardship for the offshore industry.
Heerema, president and CEO of Allseas, developed the concept of dynamically positioned subsea pipelay with the introduction of Lorelay, OTC said in the release.
OTC said the contributions and technical knowledge of Hoshman, who has more than 43 years of industry experience, have helped bridge the industry and regulatory bodies.
OTC, usually held in May, was moved to Aug. 16-19 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizers say the conference will be an in-person event with virtual components.
