Oil and Gas Development Co. Ltd. (OGDC) and its joint venture partners Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. and Government Holdings Private Ltd. have discovered new hydrocarbon bearing horizons from its appraisal well, Nashpa #3, in the Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.
The well was drilled to a depth of 5,250 m (17,224 ft), aiming to appraise the discoveries of Lockhart, Datta, and Shinawari as well as to test the potential of the Samanasuk, Lumshiwal & Hangu formations. The Datta formation was not encountered at 5,250 m depth due to anomalous increase in thickness of the overlying Sinawari formation.
The Samanasuk formation has produced 150 b/d of crude oil and 0.6 MMcf/d of gas through 32/64” choke. Lumshiwal & Hangu formations (tested jointly) have produced 3,015 b/d of crude oil and 14.35 MMcf/d of gas through 32/64” choke. The actual flow potential of the well would be determined after completion followed by stimulation.
