Marathon Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: MPC) said Jan. 27 that J. Mike Stice will join the board of directors, effective Feb. 22. He is currently on the board of U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. and is a former member of MarkWest Energy Partners LP's board.
He has more than 35 years' experience in the upstream and midstream gas businesses, including as CEO of Access Midstream Partners LP. He began his career in 1981 at Conoco and became president of ConocoPhillips Qatar in 2006.
In 2008, he became president and COO of Chesapeake Midstream Development LP, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chesapeake Energy Corp., and senior vice president of natural gas projects for Chesapeake. In 2009, he was became CFO of Chesapeake Midstream Partners and then became a director of Chesapeake Midstream Partners, which changed its name to Access Midstream in 2012. Until he retired in 2014, Stice was the CEO. He remained on the board until 2015.
Currently, Stice is the dean of Mewbourne College of Earth & Energy at the University of Oklahoma, which he took on in 2015.
Stice earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma, a master's degree from Stanford University, and a doctorate from The George Washington University.
The board now has 12 directors, Marathon Petroleum said.
