London-headquartered Genel Energy Plc said it has flowed oil from the TT-34 well on the northern flank of the Taq Taq Field in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

The well, which is nearing completion, produced from all zones tested at a maximum combined flow rate of more than 3,900 barrels of oil per day (bbl/d) with 28/64-in. choke, Genel said in a news release. It helped lift gross production from the field to about 13,650 bbl/d.

“Individual zone testing is now underway, which will determine the long-term production strategy,” the company said.

The well is expected to be placed on production around mid-January. An initial flow rate between 1,500 bbl/d and 2,000 bbl/d is anticipated.

Genel added the rig has moved to drill the TT-35 well nearby.
