Eni said May 9 it has made a gas and condensate discovery in CTP-Block 4 offshore Ghana.

Drilled by the Maersk Voyager drillship on the Akoma exploration prospect, the well proved up to an estimated 650 billion cubic feet of gas and up to 20 million barrels of condensate, the company said in a news release.

“Akoma-1X proved a single gas and condensate column in a 20-m thick sandstone reservoir interval of Cenomanian age with good petrophysical properties,” Eni said.

The well was drilled to a total depth of 3,790 m with a water depth of 350 m.

Additional drilling could confirm more upside for gas and oil, the company said.

“Akoma-1X is the first well drilled in CTP-Block 4 and represents a discovery of a potentially commercial nature, due to its close distance to the existing infrastructures,” Eni said. “The discovery can be put in production with a subsea tie to the FPSO with the aim to extend its production plateau.”

The well is located about 12 km northwest of the Sankofa hub, where the John Agyekum Kufuor FPSO is located.

Eni Ghana is the operator of the block, holding 42.469% interest. Joint venture partners are Vitol Upstream Tano (33.975%), Ghana National Petroleum Corp. (10%), Woodfields Upstream (9,556%) and Explorco (4%).
