Two wells drilled by Norwegian E&P Aker BP hit gas near the Bøyla Field in the North Sea, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) said in a news release Aug. 7.
NPD described the discovery as small, putting its estimated size between 0.6 and 1.7 million standard cubic meters of recoverable oil equivalent.
Well 24/9-13 encountered a 3-m gas in the Hordaland group with mostly good reservoir quality, according to the NPD.
“Several sandstone layers with mainly good reservoir quality were also encountered, totaling 17 meters in the Balder Formation,” NPD said in the release. “These showed traces of petroleum.”
Appraisal well 24/9-13 A hit a 40-m gas column in injectite zones. The NPD said 7 m of the sandstone had “good to very good reservoir quality.”
Neither well encountered petroleum/water contacts.
“The licensees will assess the well results for further delineation of the discovery,” the NPD said. “The wells were not formation-tested, but extensive data acquisition and sampling have been conducted.”
