Acteon subsidiary 2H Offshore is joining a Joint Industry Project (JIP) run by DNV GL to develop new design guidelines for thermoplastic composite pipes (TCP) to advance the understanding and use of composites in the offshore sector.

The JIP kicked off last October and will take a year to complete. 2H teams in London, England and Houston, USA will be actively involved, with the work to build on existing knowledge and guidelines to achieve an industry accepted standard.

Tim Eyles, managing director, 2H, stressed the good fatigue performance and reduced cross-sectional weight of composite pipes could help to overcome industry technical challenges, especially in deeper waters and harsh environments. 2H already has experience of using composite materials in risers.
