Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) and WEC Energy Group are purchasing solar and battery storage capacity from Wisconsin’s 300-megawatt (MW) High Noon Solar Energy Center located in Columbia County, according to an April 10 press release.
MGE and WEC subsidiaries WE Energies and Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) received permission from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to purchase solar capacity and battery storage from the facility.
MGE will own 30 MW of solar and 16.5 MW of battery storage. WE Energies and WPS will own the remaining 270 MW of solar and 148.5 MW of battery storage.
Financial details of the deals were not disclosed.
The High Noon facility is expected to power approximately 90,000 households with carbon-free energy beginning in 2027.
