1 Production Specialties Co., Woodland, Calif., brought home a gas discovery at its #1-5 Stagecoach wildcat in Section 5-22n-2w, Glenn County, Calif. The directional well tested Forbes between 4,312-46 ft. for 600,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. The 4,890-ft. well is 1.5 miles west of Rancho Capay Field and four miles northeast of Orlando, according to IHS Energy. 2 A wildcat well on trend with existing production in Kern County, Calif., is in the planning stages for Prime Natural Resources Inc. The Houston-based company plans to drill the #1 Chili Pepper in Section 19-26s-20e, about 9.75 miles west-northwest of Lost Hills. The well is about 1.75 miles north of North Beer Nose Field and about a mile south of the company's planned #1 Garibaldi wildcat outpost well to Blackwells Corner Field. 3 Pannonian Energy Inc., a subsidiary of Gasco Energy Inc., Denver, will go to the southwestern flank of the Uinta Basin to drill its #41-20-11-15 Gate Canyon wildcat. The 11,700-ft. well, in Section 20-11s-15e, Uinta County, Utah, will check Cretaceous zones for gas through the Mancos formation. The wildcat is some four miles north-northwest of Nine Mile Canyon Field in Carbon County, but there is no production in the same township. The #1 Pickarel-Government, the discovery well for Nine Mile Canyon Field, tested 2.4 million cu. ft. of gas a day from Wasatch between 3,782 and 4,044 ft. and up to 27,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from Mesaverde between 6,983 and 7,198 ft. Pannonian has an 11,760-ft. Mancos test 0.75-mile east of the proposed location at its #31-21-11-15 Gate Canyon-State. 4 Wolverine Gas & Oil Co., Grand Rapids, Mich., has a test in the works for a nonproducing area on the Wasatch Plateau some 2.5 miles southeast of Sigurd in Sevier County, Utah. The #17-1 Kings Meadow Ranches, in Section 17-23s-1w, is scheduled to Jurassic Navajo at 9,720 ft. on the Wolverine Federal Exploration Unit. The nearest production to the rank wildcat is about 45 miles east-northeast in Ferron Field in Emery County, where production comes from shallow Ferron sands and coal seams. Some 78 miles south lies Upper Valley Field in the Kaiparowits Basin in southern Utah. It produces oil from Permian Kaibab. Two dry holes were drilled between two and four miles north-northeast of the Wolverine site. 5 If successful, a proposed wildcat will extend the staple horizontal Bakken play in northeastern Montana to the west. Lyco Energy Corp., Dallas, will drill its #16-16- Boulder-Stone in Section 26-26n-51e in southwestern Richland County. Lyco plans to kick off the horizontal leg at 7,774 ft. and drill a horizontal leg to a total measured depth of 12,634 ft. in the same section. The nonproducing township is some 11 miles south-southeast of Poplar, according to IHS Energy. The new well is 13 miles west-northwest of Lyco's #1 Dennis Bakken discovery in the Charlie Creek Field area and nearly 13 miles west-northwest of the closest Bakken production. 6 Edge Petroleum Operating Co., Houston, is drilling a wildcat to 10,900 ft. on the Montana side of the Powder River Basin about 30 miles south-southwest of Broadus. The #4-33 Westech-Federal is close to the Wyoming border in Section 33-9s-50e, Powder River County. The well will look for pay potential from Muddy at 6,750 ft., Dakota at 7,070 ft., Minnelusa at 8,457 ft. and Mississippian Reef at 10,650 ft. The nearest production is from Muddy in Ute Field five miles southeast in Campbell County, Wyo. 7 Tulsa-based independent Zinke & Trumbo Inc. plans a Williston Basin wildcat, probably a horizontal Madison test, in Section 23-150n-102w in northwestern McKenzie County, N.D. The #1-23 Ruth is about 3.5 miles southwest of Alexander and about 2.5 miles west of Pronghorn Field, which produces from Madison, Duperow and Red River. 8 Cabot Oil Gas Corp., Houston, has completed a discovery producing 2.2 million cu. ft. of gas a day from fractured Lower Lewis between 10,993 and 11,038 ft. in the Great Divide Basin, about 28 miles northwest of Wamsutter, Wyo. The test was run through a 24/64-in. choke with 658 psi of flowing tubing pressure. The #10-28 Wind Dancer Unit is in Section 28-24n-96w in northeastern Sweetwater County. The company plans fracture Upper Lewis between 10,884 and 10,926 ft., Middle Almond between 11,330 and 11,416 ft. and Lower Almond between 11,482 and 11,572 ft. It had tested Middle Almond without fracturing for 420,000 cu. ft. of gas a day on a 24/64-in. choke. Cabot already has scheduled a stepout from the discovery. 9 BP America Production Co. has completed two exploration wells on the northern flank of the Washakie Basin 12 miles southwest of Wamsutter in Sweetwater County, Wyo. The #17-1 Two Rim Unit, in Section 17-18n-95w, tested at 1.2 million cu. ft. of gas, 76 bbl. of condensate and 118 bbl. of water a day from two fractured Mesaverde intervals between 10,792 and 11,070 ft. Nearly 1.5 miles southeast, the company completed the #21-1 Two Rim Unit in Section 21-18n-95w for 974,000 cu. ft. of gas, also from Mesaverde. 10 Lightly drilled southeastern South Dakota has a 2,300-ft. wildcat planned by Peter K. Roosevelt, Denver. The #14-17 American Growers, in Section 17-8s-3e, northwestern Fall River County, will test Leo (Minnelusa) about 3.5 miles northeast of Edgemont. The wildcat is about seven miles northeast of Edgemont Field, a two-well Leo field that has produced 199,500 bbl. of oil, 115.2 million cu. ft. of gas and 1.7 million bbl. of water since 1980. One well still produces at stripper rates, according to IHS Energy. 11 EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc., Calgary, has asked for permits for three exploration wells approximately 23 miles northwest of Parachute in northwestern Garfield County, Colo. The wells will test Mesaverde intervals, including Williams Fork. The COC #66492X Figure Four Unit, in Section 22-4s-98w, is planned to 9,450 ft., the #8019 Figure Four, in Section 28-4s-98w, also will go to 9,450 ft., and the #80-15 Figure Four, in Section 24-4s-98w, has a projected total depth of 9,800 ft. The wells are approximately three miles east-southeast of the #8005 Figure Four Ranch, completed last year but awaiting a pipeline connection. 12 Berexco Inc., Wichita, Kan., staked the #16-11 Anderson "A" wildcat on the Cambridge Arch in Section 11-2n-37w in southeastern Dundy County, Neb. The well will test Lansing-Kansas City at 4,450 ft. about eight miles northeast of Benkelman. The well is a half-mile north of the non-commercial Hickman Canyon North Field discovery well, which pumped six bbl. of oil per day from Lansing. 13 A rare wildcat has been staked in north-central Arizona by Midland, Texas-based independent Clayton Williams Energy Inc. The company plans a 7,000-ft. Precambrian test almost six miles south of Cameron in Coconino County. The #1 Babbitt is in 15-27n-9e. Two dry holes were drilled about a mile south in 1948, and the nearest drilling to a comparable depth was a dry hole 38 miles east-northeast. The nearest production is 130 miles northeast in the Four Corners area, according to IHS Energy. 14 Gruy Petroleum Management Co., a subsidiary of Magnum Hunter Resources Inc., Irving, Texas, will drill a 2,600-ft. stratigraphic test 50 miles southwest of Grants in Catron County, N.M. The company will evaluate and core the Crevasse Canyon, Morino Hill and Gallup sands at its #1 Strat-Robert & Ruby MaGee in Section 9-3n-13w. The nearest production to the test is 80 miles north-northwest on the southern flank of the San Juan Basin in McKinley County, but two dry holes were drilled more than seven miles away, one east and one southwest. 15 Pelican Hill Oil & Gas Inc., San Clemente, Calif., is using its own rig to drill the #1 Iliamna wildcat to 5,500 ft. on the west side of the Cook Inlet of southern Alaska, about 29 miles southwest of Tyonek. The well is in Section 31-9n-14w, Seward Meridian. Pelican Hill plans to evaluate gas potential in the Tyonek sand. The nearest production is five miles southeast at West McArthur Field, which produces oil from Hemlock. Pelican Hill has more than 50,000 acres in the area. This prospect is on a farmout from Unocal. 16 Marathon Oil Co., Houston, is drilling the #1 Kasilof South wildcat five miles north of Clam Gulch on the south-central Kenai Peninsula of Alaska. The well, in Section 28-3n-12w, will be drilled to a bottomhole location in Section 25-3n-13w more than 2.5 miles west-northwest to test the Tyonek sand offshore in the Cook Inlet. The wildcat is almost 10 miles south-southwest of Kenai Field, which produces gas. Marathon also plans the #11.1 Kasilof South, a lateral off the #1 Kasilof South, to a separate offshore target on the same structure as the main borehole.
