1 PYR Energy Corp., Denver, owner of a 10.575% working interest in the 19,724-ft. #1 Berkley East Lost Hills, an apparent discovery in Section 6-26s-21e MD, Kern County, Calif., operated by Berkley Petroleum Corp., Calgary, says the wildcat was tested over several days, with gas being produced at restricted and controlled rates up to 23 million cu. ft. per day. The extended test rate was 13.1 million cu. ft. of gas per day, with the water/gas ratio being stable at 295 bbl. per million cu. ft. and the liquid hydrocarbons/gas ratio estimated at 75 bbl. per million cu. ft. The tested interval, between 19,370-19,698 ft., is at the base of an estimated hydrocarbon column of approximately 2,750 ft. in the East Lost Hills structure. The wildcat bottomed in the targeted Miocene Temblor formation. PYR also reports drilling has commenced at another wildcat, the Berkley #3 Berkley East Lost Hills in Section 20-26s-21e MD. 2 An apparent Devonian Duperow discovery, the Chesapeake Operating Inc. #1-31 Warren in Section 31-26n-59e, Richland County, Mont., yielded 144 bbl. of oil and 250,000 cu. ft. of sour gas (43% H2S), with a trace of water, on a 17-hr. flow test. IHS Energy Group reports the Oklahoma City-based company tested on a 15/64-in. choke through perforations at 10,872-76 ft. The #1-31 Warren is a workover of a 12,850-ft. well completed by Chesapeake in late 1997 as a Silurian Stonewall discovery. 3 In North Dakota, a Devonian Birdbear (Nisku) discovery has been completed in Bull Moose Field and a Birdbear pool in Roosevelt Field has been extended. The discovery, Houston-based Choctaw II Oil & Gas Ltd.'s #22-32L Pennzoil-Depco-Federal in Section 22-147n-101w, McKenzie County, produced 200 bbl. of oil and 4 bbl. of water per day on recompletion in Birdbear at about 10,950 ft. To the south in Billings County, another Texas operator extended the Birdbear pool in Roosevelt Field. Griffon & Associates LLC, of Pearland, recorded a flow of 254 bbl. of oil and 230,000 cu. ft. of gas per day on a 14/64-in. choke through perforations at 10,382-85 ft. The #41-15 Prairie Dog-Fee, Section 15-142n-102w, is a reentry of a 13,123-ft. horizontal Mississippian Bakken well completed in 1991. 4 Also in McKenzie County, a horizontal producer completed by Amerada Hess Corp., New York City, has extended an Ordovician Red River pool in Blue Buttes Field about 2 miles to the south and the same distance to the southwest. The #1 HR G.V. Levang, Section 17-150n-95w, yielded a flow of 167 bbl. of oil, 528,000 cu. ft. of gas and 126 bbl. of water per day on a 16/64-in. choke from an openhole horizontal interval between 13,688-16,510 ft. The extension is a redrill of the southernmost producer in Blue Buttes Field, which was a Silurian Interlake well. 5 Amoco Production Co. gauged a flow of 650,000 cu. ft. of oil, 3 bbl. of condensate and 90 bbl. of water per day on tests of overpressured Upper Cretaceous Lance at the #15-29 Rainbow, a wildcat nearly 2 miles northeast of an unnamed Lance producing field and about 6 miles northeast of Jonah Field in Sublette County, Wyo. IHS Energy Group reports the discovery, drilled in Section 29-30n-107w, was tested in an interval between 8,912-12,628 ft. Meanwhile, recent Lance producers completed in Jonah Field include ones by Amoco; Forest Oil Corp., Denver; and McMurry Oil Co., Casper. Forest says its #23-13 Elm Federal, Section 23-28n-109w, tested 18.2 million cu. ft. of gas and 123 bbl. of condensate per day on a 44/64-in. choke. The 9,700-ft. well encountered an estimated 405 net ft. of pay. Forest notes it has a 64% working interest in the well. Amoco's well, the #7-19 Corona Unit in Section 19-29n-108w, flowed at an initial rate of 8.985 million cu. ft. per day on a 32/64-in. choke from 11 intervals between 8,150-11,260 ft. McMurry completed its #11-34 Stud Horse Butte, Section 34-29n-108w, flowing 4.261 million cu. ft. of gas, 80 bbl. of condensate and 15 bbl. of water per day on a 15/64-in. choke. The production is from 6 intervals between 8,635-11,261 ft, 6 Wyoming's Snowbank Field in Carbon County gained an extension, and its third producing well, with the completion of the Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. #40-5 Lookout Wash Unit flowing 4.635 million cu. ft. of gas and 50 bbl. of condensate per day. Cabot, based in Houston, drilled the stepout in Section 5-14n-93w, a mile southeast of the field's confirmation well, and tested two Cretaceous Almond zones at 10,922-31 and 10,934-44 ft. 7 An outpost drilled by Casper independent Double Eagle Petroleum & Mining Co. a little more than a mile off northern flank of Madden Field in Fremont County, Wyo., has been finaled flowing 1.685 million cu. ft. of gas and 37 bbl. of condensate per day. IHS Energy Group notes the #1 Allen Deep, Section 26-39n-90w, is producing from 11,681-88 and 11,697-11,718 ft. in Tertiary Fort Union. In Section 27-39n-90w, Houston-based Burlington Resources Inc., through its Louisiana Land & Exploration Co. subsidiary, is drilling below 15,700 ft. at its fifth ultradeep Mississippian Madden test on the Madden Deep Unit. The #6-27 Bighorn has a projected depth of 25,800 ft. 8 Klabzuba Oil & Gas Inc., Denver, is set to drill a remote wildcat at the #19-1 UPRC in Section 19-20n-106w, Sweetwater County, Wyo. The company plans to drill to 8,000 ft. to evaluate the gas potential of the Almond member of Mesaverde. 9 An extension of a Lower Pennsylvanian Keyes deeper-pool opener in Spelunker Field, Baca County, Colo., completed by Energy Alliance Co. Inc. flowing 1.775 million cu. ft. of gas and 10 bbl. of water per day, has confirmed the discovery. The company, of Englewood, Colo., perforated at 5,207-66 ft. and tested on a 20/64-in. choke at the #1-13 Keystone in irregular Section 13-33s-44w. IHS Energy Group reports the discovery, Energy Alliance's #2-23 Redcurrant-Federal in irregular Section 12, is a half-mile to the north. The discovery initially flowed 1.735 million cu. ft. of gas per day. 10 Colorado's Montrose County is to get an 11,100-ft. wildcat, scheduled to be drilled by Tom Brown Inc., Denver, at the #14 Bull Canyon, Section 14-45n-18w. The project is to be drilled to evaluate the Ismay member of Pennsylvanian Paradox, reports the Rocky Mountain Oil Journal. The closest production, from Pennsylvanian Hermosa, is about 2.5 miles to the south-southwest in San Miguel County's Hamm Canyon Field. 11 Marathon Oil Co., Houston, has filed applications with the state of Alaska for approval to drill an exploratory test on the Kenai Peninsula, according to IHS Energy Group. The new venture-the #1 Grassim Oskolkoff-would be directionally drilled from a surface location in Section 23-1n-13w, Seward Meridian. Marathon plans to evaluate the gas potential of Tyonek Sand at about 8,500 ft. Measured total depth is expected to be 11,717 ft. Marathon's plans call for drilling to get under way in early October. The drillsite is about 3 miles south and slightly west of Falls Creek Field, a Tyonek gas reservoir at approximately 7,045 ft. 12 Work on Miami-based Forcenergy Inc.'s Osprey platform is on schedule for installation this summer in Alaska's Cook Inlet. The platform is to be installed at a site in the northeast quarter of Township 7n-14w, Seward Meridian, in the Redoubt Shoal Field area. Drilling from the platform is expected to commence early in this year's fourth quarter, with the first test to be the company's #1 Redoubt Shoal Unit. The venture, an extended-reach test, will be directionally drilled 1.5 miles eastward to a bottomhole location in the northwest quarter of Township 7n-13w. Proposed true vertical depth is 12,500 ft. The Osprey platform is the first of several Alaska projects Forcenergy plans to start this year. The company intends to drill an onshore exploratory test in the southern portion of West Forelands about 2 miles from the Osprey platform in the northwest quarter of Township 7n-14w. In addition, Forcenergy anticipates drilling an exploitation test on the West McArthur River Unit along with development activity within the Unocal-operated McArthur River Field.
