1 Two California wildcats have been started and location has been made for a third, reports IHS Energy Group. BTA Oil Producers, Midland, Texas, is drilling the #1 9808 JV-P Dann Unit in Section 13-7n-1e MD, Solano County. The second active test is Houston-based EOG Resources' #72X-33 Babylon in Section 33-28s-26e MD, Kern County, where the company is moving in rotary tools. Meanwhhile, the new location, staked by Equity Oil Co., Salt Lake City, at the #1-24 Hawker Hurricane, is in Section 24-21n-2w MD, Glenn County. 2 Ballard Petroleum LLC, Billings, is drilling toward a projected depth of 5,500 ft. at its remote wildcat the #5-1 Oil Hollow-Federal in Section 5-11s-5e, Utah County, Utah. Ballard plans to test Jurassic Twin Creek and Nugget at the venture, about 20 miles northwest of the nearest production in Clear Creek Field in Carbon County. 3 North Dakota's Baker Field, in McKenzie County, gained a new Devonian Duperow pool, the result of recompletion work by Nance Petroleum Corp. at the #31-10 Corp of Engineers in Section 10-153n-101w. IHS Energy Group reports Nance, of Billings, recorded an initial gauge of 104 bbl. of oil and 228 bbl. of water per day from an approximate depth of 11,100 ft. The new pool opener originally was completed producing from Ordovician Red River at 13,330 ft. Baker Field also has production from Mississippian Madison and Nesson. 4 The ZAAP Group, made up of Zinke & Trumbo Inc., Zavanna LLC and Palace Exploration Co., reports the completion of a 0.75-mile northeast extension of Stockyard Creek Field in Williams County, N.D. It's the horizontal #14-10H Tofte, Section 10-154n-99w, that yielded 168 bbl. of oil and 32 bbl. of water, with approximately 160,000 cu. ft. of gas, per day on pump. Westport Oil & Gas Co. Inc., the operator of record, drilled the outpost to an approximate vertical depth of 9,809 ft. to the Buell interval of Mississippian Mission Canyon and then horizontally to a total measured depth of 11,954 ft. The ZAAP Group and Westport are based in Denver. 5 Another field in North Dakota was extended, this one Customs Field in Burke County, with the completion a few months ago of a stepout pumping at an initial rate of 141 bbl. of oil and 208 bbl. of water, with 60,000 cu. ft. of gas, per day, says IHS Energy Group. Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Co., Houston, drilled the horizontal #44-32H Wilson in Section 32-164n-90w and completed it from three openhole laterals in Midale/Nesson (Madison). Measured total depths of the laterals are 11,634 ft. (5,533 ft., true vertical depth), 10,796 ft. and 9,960 ft. The well is a mile north of Customs Field. 6 Oxy USA Inc., Tulsa, has started its three-well exploration program in Ward County, N.D., reports the Rocky Mountain Oil Journal. The company is drilling the #1 Feldman in Section 15-159n-88w and has locations staked for the #1 Mickelson (originally permitted as the #1 Titan) in Section 5-159n-89w and the #1 Thelen "A" in Section 35-160n-89w. Details regarding projected depths and formations to be tested are being withheld. 7 Rotary tools are being rigged up at the Armstrong Operating Inc. #27-1 Hammer, a wildcat in Bottineau County, N.D. According to IHS Energy Group, the Dickinson, N.D., independent's venture is in Section 27-160n-83w, about 2.5 miles from the closest existing Madison oil production in two fields-Great Northern to the west and Lansford to the northwest. Blaine Field, an abandoned two-well Madison pool, is 0.75 mile to the northeast. Projected depth at the new venture is not reported. 8 Initial flow of gas amounted to 2 million cu. ft. per day at a remote wildcat drilled by Tom Brown Inc., Denver, at the #29-33 Tribal-Grayling in Section 29-2n-4e, Fremont County, Wyo. Production at the discovery has stabilized at the rate of about 800,000 cu. ft. per day. The 13,405-ft. discovery is producing through 248 ft. of perforations in Cretaceous Mesaverde. Brown, as operator, has a 40% working interest in the well, drilled on the Wind River Indian Reservation about 12 miles southeast of the Brown-operated Pavillion Field. 9 Camwest Exploration LLC, Denver, and Texaco Exploration & Production Inc. are each drilling a wildcat southeast of Wyoming's Jonah Field in Sublette County, Wyo., says IHS Energy Group. Camwest's #1-18 Poblano-Federal is seven miles southeast of the field in Section 28-28n-107w. Upper Cretaceous Lance is to be tested to a depth of 12,000 ft. About two miles further southeast, Texaco is drilling a scheduled 12,450-ft. venture at #3-2 Juel Spring-Federal in Section 2-27n-107w. Lance and Mesaverde are to be evaluated. Meanwhile, on the southwestern flank of Jonah Field, two wells have been completed by Casper independent McMurry Oil Co. producing from overpressured Lance. The #15-30 Corona-SHB, Section 30-29n-108w, flowed 4.386 million cu. ft. of gas and 26 bbl. of condensate through perforations between 8,298-9,338. The company recorded an initial gauge of 5.841 million cu. ft. of gas, 152 bbl. of condensate and 12 bbl. of water per day at the #11-13 Yellow Point in Section 13-28n-109w. The well is perforated between 7,852-10,054 ft. 10 Calgary-based Paramount Resources USA Inc. is drilling toward a projected depth of 14,300 ft. at the #10-1 Pine Ridge in Johnson County, Wyo. The Rocky Mountain Oil Journal says Pennsylvanian Minnelusa is the objective of the wildcat in Section 10-44n-81w. 11 Drilling is under way at two exploratory tests in Wyoming's Campbell County-one the Ballard Petroleum LLC #33-20 BPL-Federal in Section 20-43n-73W and the other Denver independent Fancher Oil LLC's #31-11 Reb-Fee in Section 31-51n-71w. The Ballard wildcat is scheduled to test Cretaceous Dakota to a depth of about 12,200 ft., while Fancher's project is designed to evaluate Minnelusa at about 9,700 ft. 12 A new-field opener completed by Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Co. in San Miguel County, Colo., flowed 8.14 million cu. ft. of gas per day through perforation at 8,929-69 ft. in Pennsylvanian. IHS Energy Group reports the company used a 32/64-in. choke to test the #5 Fossil-Federal in Section 19-44n-16w. 13 Kit Carson Energy Corp., Carlsbad, Calif., has moved in a rotary rig to drill a 2,700-ft. test of Cretaceous Niobrara at #16-1 Blackwell-State in Section 16-7s-49w, Kit Carson County, Colo. The venture is the second of three wildcats targeting Cretaceous zones in the township. The company's first venture-#30-9 Antholz in Section 30-was completed last year as a 2,584-ft. dry hole. The #1-13 Hays, Section 1, is still an undrilled location. Also a Niobrara test, it has a projected depth of 3,550 ft. 14 The Western Operating Co. #1 Crockett is a new wildcat location staked in Section 26-17s-42w, Kiowa County, Colo. According to IHS Energy Group, Denver-based Western's project is to be drilled to about 5,300 ft. to test Pennsylvanian Morrow Sand. It's a mile northwest of an inactive 5,484-ft. Morrow discovery completed in 1991 by Union Pacific Resources Co., Fort Worth, in Section 35-17s-42w. The discovery #1 Tuttle 33-35 was later incorporated into Jace Field, a Morrow pool.
