Western Land Services Inc. hired Shawn Fields as president in late April to replace outgoing president Rich Collins.
Collins is stepping down from his full-time role at the land brokerage firm where he started his career in 1986. He will continue serving Western Land Services on the board of directors and as a consultant.
Fields joins Western Land Services from NextEra Energy Resources LLC, where he served as executive director of upstream development in its Houston office.
An Oklahoma native, Fields began his career at Samson Resources, a privately held energy company in Tulsa, Okla. He also later worked for 13 years at Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy Corp.
Overall, Fields has 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry all spent at exploration and production companies. He also has 10 years of experience in executive leadership roles.
“Shawn brings a wide range of experience and contacts in the energy business, not to mention an innate understanding of our customers’ needs from his tenure at top exploration and production firms,” John Wilson, CEO of Western Land Services, said in a statement on April 17. “We look forward to Shawn leading our team and growing our presence nationally.”
Fields will work out of the company’s Oklahoma City office that opened in 2018 following the acquisition of Oklahoma-based Barton Land Consultants, a full-service operation originating in Duncan, Okla. The firm also has a corporate office in West Michigan.
Western Land Services said the addition of Fields to its leadership team demonstrates the firm’s commitment to one of the country’s most prolific oil and gas regions, according to the company press release.
