Venture Global began commercial operations at its Calcasieu Pass LNG export project on April 15, the company announced.
Calcasieu is now free to begin shipments of LNG to the project’s long-term customers, the company said in an April 15 press release.
Calcasieu Pass already began delivering LNG in 2022, just not to the project’s long-term contracted customers—including Shell, BP, Edison and Repsol. The customers began an arbitration process in 2024 with approximately $5.4 billion in claims. Venture Global argued the contracts hinged on a fully commissioned Calcasieu Pass.
The company received permission from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to put the remaining facilities at Calcasieu into service on April 3. Calcasieu Pass 2 received permission from the U.S. Department of Energy in March to export to non-Free Trade Agreement countries.
Calcasieu Pass reached commercial operations 68 months after reaching a final investment decision. The LNG facility boasts that its average liquefaction fees are under $2/MMBtu for long-term sales and purchase agreements.
