BP has awarded Technip Energies the FEED contract for H2Teesside, a low-carbon hydrogen project in the U.K.
H2Teesside is expected to be one of the U.K.’s largest low-carbon hydrogen production facilities, fully integrated with carbon capture technology, Technip said Aug. 27.
Alongside integrating other decarbonization projects in the region, captured CO2 from the facility will be exported to the Northern Endurance Partnership CO2 gathering system.
The project is targeting 1.2 gigawatts of low-carbon hydrogen production, which equates to more than 10% of the U.K.’s 2030 hydrogen production target, Technip said.
Technip added that H2Teesside could capture and send over 2 million tonnes of CO2 per year for storage, equivalent to the emissions caused from heating 1 million U.K. homes.
As part of the FEED study, Technip will design a large-scale project, integrating hydrogen and carbon capture technologies.
If selected, Technip will provide the full engineering procurement, construction and commissioning for the project to make a 2025 final investment decision.
