Commodities company Gunvor USA plans to integrate low-carbon natural gas produced by PureWest Energy into its supply portfolio, the Rockies independent producer said June 3.

As part of the agreement, Gunvor will offtake PureWest’s third-party verified, low-carbon natural gas attributes, which may be unbundled or bundled with physical gas. The low-carbon natural gas can be blended with renewable natural gas, which PureWest said can help meet decarbonization goals and lower Scope 3 emissions.

“PureWest produces natural gas with one of the lowest carbon intensities in North America and we remain committed to providing reliable, lower carbon energy options for end-users,” PureWest CEO Chris Valdez said in a news release. “We’re proud to partner with Gunvor to deliver independently verified, low-carbon natural gas solutions that help end-users meet their decarbonization goals.”

The company said its natural gas is measured and independently verified in alignment with ISO 14067, the global standard for quantifying and reporting the carbon footprint of a product’s life cycle. PureWest also utilizes CleanConnect monitoring systems to detect emissions and its auditable, blockchain-backed system built to verify environmental attributes and carbon intensity with full transparency, according to the release.

“Gunvor is committed to offering energy solutions that meet growing market decarbonization needs, especially as more of our customers are seeking new avenues to reach their emissions reductions goals,” Gunvor CEO Gary Pedersen said.

The agreement positions Gunvor to meet International Sustainability & Carbon Certification standards, a certification system created to show compliance with certain sustainability practices used during the production and distribution of products, according to the release.
