The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded Pioneer Energy with a $10 million grant for its emission control treater (ECT) technology.
The ECT will eliminate routine flaring and nearly all methane and conventional emissions from oil and gas production sites.
The grant, announced May 28 by Pioneer, will provide funds to scale the ECT from pilot to commercial scale and deploy the equipment with one or more oil producers for a six-month field trial.
Pioneer Energy has partnered with Colorado School of Mines to independently measure and validate the resulting emissions and flaring reductions and to compare the results to currently utilized technologies.
