The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) said it was still investigating the cause of a fire that shut down a natural gas pipeline earlier this week operated by Energy Transfer.

Located south of Waverly, Illinois, the pipeline fire occurred on Oct. 3 and was allowed to safely burn out with no injuries reported, according to a statement by the Jacksonville-Morgan County Office of Emergency Management.

“Some residents were required to be evacuated from their homes for a brief period of time; however, everyone has been allowed to return,” the office added.

“The emergency management team from Morgan County, Waverly Fire Department and Energy Transfer are currently working the incident,” it said, adding that the cause of the fire will be investigated.
