While drilling activity and production remains at a steady clip, several operators have made significant land transactions.
- An undisclosed private entity acquired Jones energy Inc’s producing and undeveloped oil and gas assets in company’s core Cleveland, Tonkawa and Marmaton plays.
- In late 2013, Forest Oil Corp sold its Texas Panhandle oil and gas assets to Templar Energy LLC for $1.0 billion.
- Chaparral Energy Inc acquired Cabot Oil & Gas’ assets in the Marmaton play for $160.1 million, with approximately 450 drilling locations in the Oklahoma and Texas panhandle area.
- Apache has built an approximate 100,000-acre (net) position in the Dalhart Basin Granite Wash play and is underway at two canyon lime exploratory wells and three planned in 2014.
- SM Energy divested the company’s granite wash interests (approximately 58,000 net mineral acres) in late 2013.

A Devon Energy Corp. horizontal Des Moines granite wash A venture flowed 14.4 million cu. ft. of gas and 821 bbl. of 56-degree-gravity condensate with 620 bbl. of water from a site in Hemphill County, (RRC Dist. 10), Texas. The #2H Mathers Ranch 167 (Allocation) is in Section 167, Block 41, H&TC Survey, A-241. The Mathers Field well was drilled to 18,059 ft. (10,279 ft. true vertical) and bottomed to the south. Production is from a fracture-stimulated interval at 10,400-18,003 ft. Gauged on a 64/64-in. choke, the well’s shut-in tubing pressure was 2,220 psi and the flowing tubing pressure was 1,636 psi. Devon Energy Corp. completed a Des Moines granite wash A producer in Hemphill County (RRC Dist. 10), Texas. The Anadarko Basin well, #3H Thomas Meek 76, is in Section 76, Block M-1, H&GN Survey, A-1132. The well flowed 12.3 million cu. ft. of gas, 250 bbl. of 56-degree-gravity condensate and 5,445 bbl. of water per day through perforations between 11,470 ft. and 15,446 ft. The 15,466-ft. venture was drilled to the south, and the true vertical depth is 11,283 ft. After fracturing, the initial tests were conducted on a 64/64-in. choke. The flowing tubing pressure was 1,099 psi and the shut-in tubing pressure was 1,505 psi. Devon is based in Oklahoma City.
3 Apache Corp. 10/03/13
According to IHS Inc., Apache Corp. reported preliminary production rates for three high-volume vertical producers in the Dalhart Basin’s Paint Ridge Field in Oldham County (RRC Dist. 10), Texas. The #1165 Boys Ranch is in Section 116, Block 47, H&TC Survey, A-808. The 9,503-ft. well flowed 1,950 bbl. of oil and 1.6 million cu. ft. of gas per day from a fracture-stimulated Canyon Granite Wash section above total depth. In Section 3, Block B-5, HE&WT Survey, A-535, the 9,622-ft. #303 Bivins-LIT, flowed 1,467 bbl. of oil with 1.3 million cu. ft. of gas from the Canyon Wash after fracturing. The #1157 Bivins-LIT is in Section 115, Block 47, H&TC Survey, A-353. It was drilled to 9,437 ft. and produced approximately 885 bbl. of oil and 885,000 cu. ft. of gas daily from an untreated Canyon Granite Wash interval. Although the Houston-based company did not provide details, it plans to fracture stimulate the well later in 2013.
4 EOG Resources Inc. 2/21/13
In Ellis County, Okla., EOG Resources Inc. completed a Marmaton producer. The #14 1H Berryman produced 926 bbl. of 43-degree-gravity oil, 1.55 million cu. ft. of gas and 2,102 bbl. of water per day. The western Anadarko Basin well is in Section 14-17n-24w and is flowing from an acidized and fracture-stimulated horizontal interval at 9,996-13,984 ft. Tested on a 43/64-in. choke, the flowing tubing pressure was 580-psi and the shut-in tubing pressure was 3,000 psi. Measured and true vertical depths are The 14,100 ft. venture has a true vertical depth of 9,588 ft.
5 EOG Resources Inc.: 10/11/13
An Anadarko Basin well by Houston-based EOG Resources Inc. was announced in Ellis County, Okla. The #35 1H Roberta is in Section 35-18n-24w. It flowed 1,324 bbl. of 43-degree-gravity crude with 1.53 million cu. ft. of gas and 1,092 bbl. of water per day. Gauged on a 42/64-in. choke, the shut-in tubing pressure was 4,600 psi and the flowing tubing pressure was 640 psi. The 14,084-ft. venture produces from a fracture-stimulated horizontal Marmaton interval at 9,933-13,965 ft. The true vertical depth is 9,496 ft.
6 Chesapeake Operating Inc. 02/20/14
A Cleveland producer by Chesapeake Operating Inc. flowed 7.9 million cu. ft. of gas, 515 bbl. of 55-degreee-gravity oil and 322 bbl. of water per day. The #1H Dherde 59 HMH is in Section 59, OS-2 Survey, A-1438 in Hemphill County (RRC Dist. 10), Texas. The 16,028-ft. well has a true vertical depth of 9,788 ft. and produces from a fracture-stimulated open-hole lateral at 9,207-16,026 ft. Gauged on a 12/64-in. choke, the flowing tubing pressure was 2,875-psi and the flowing tubing pressure was 3,211 psi. Chesapeake’s headquarters are in Oklahoma City.
7 Chesapeake Operating Inc. 12/04/13
In Section 14-14n-24w of Roger Mills County, Okla., Chesapeake Operating Inc. reported an Anadarko Basin producer. The #1H Maxon flowed 1,194 bbl. of 44-degree-gravity oil, 5.3 million cu. ft. of gas and 2,265 bbl. of water per day. It was tested in an acidized and fracture-stimulated Cleveland (Lower Missouri) interval at 11,414-15,902 ft. Gauged on a 32/64-in. choke, the shut-in tubing pressure was 1,734 psi and the flowing tubing pressure was 3,100 psi. The 16,018-ft. well has a true vertical depth of 11,331 ft. Chesapeake is based in Oklahoma City.
