Oklo Inc. has signed a memorandum of understanding with natgas powergen company RPower for the deployment of a phased power model for data centers, Oklo said in a Jan. 17 press release.
The model allows for immediate energy deployment using RPower’s natural gas generators to eventually transition to clean energy from Oklo’s Aurora powerhouses.
RPower’s natural gas generators will be deployed within the next two years to power data centers not served by local utilities. When Oklo’s Aurora powerhouses become commercially available, their emissions-free energy will be deployed. The RPower generators will then be used as backup and resilience energy sources to the data centers and local grid.
“This collaboration aims to ensure that data centers can access reliable energy today while building a clear and practical pathway to clean energy in the future,” said Oklo co-Founder and CEO Jacob DeWitte. “With a growing customer pipeline and a current order book of 14 gigawatts of energy, we are thrilled to work with RPower to address both immediate and long-term energy challenges.”
