1 Anadarko Petroleum Corp., Houston, plans to drill on a new prospect in the Lloyd Ridge area of the eastern Gulf of Mexico. IHS Energy Group reports Anadarko has filed another initial plan of exploration (POE), this one covering four tracts-blocks 5, 6, 49 and 50. The blocks are in 8,705-8,941 ft. of water. Earlier, the company filed a POE for its Hawkeye prospect about 20 miles south-southeast in 8,960-9,201 ft. of water. The prospect is made up of Lloyd Ridge blocks 315, 316, 359 and 360. Each prospect could get as many as 18 tests drilled across the blocks. So far, no tests have been drilled in the Lloyd Ridge area. Anadarko leased these blocks as well as several other Lloyd Ridge blocks, including Block 91 about seven miles southwest of the newest prospect, at OCS Sale 181 in December 2001. 2 Dallas independent Midroc Operating Co. is set to drill to 12,100 ft. at a Jurassic Smackover wildcat in Alabama's Conecuh County, says the Southeastern Oil Review. Midroc's #1 Cedar Creek Land & Timber 20-12 is in Section 20-4n-12e, nearly 0.75-mile northeast of Smackover oil and gas production in Little Cedar Creek Field. 3 The northwest flank of North Monroeville Field in Monroe County, Alabama, is the site of the #1 Williams 1-6, where Palmer Petroleum Inc., Shreveport, has set pipe at a total depth of 11,530 ft. in sidetrack hole. The prospect, in Section 1-6n-7e, was drilled in the original hole to 11,530 ft., plugged back and sidetracked from 5,400 ft. It's near Palmer's #1 McCall 1-7 that produces oil and gas from 11,173-85 ft. in the Frisco City Sand of Jurassic Haynesville. 4 Moon-Hines-Tigrett Operating Co. Inc., Jackson, Miss., has cased the #1 Driver 24-10, a Cambro-Ordovician Knox prospect in Section 24-17s-15w, Lamar County, Ala. The venture, a reentry of a wildcat that was completed as a dry hole in late 1979, was cleaned out to the original total depth of 4,800 ft. and deepened to 6,500 ft. Pipe is set on bottom. The company's prospect is 20 miles south of the closest production from Knox. 5 Work by S. Lavon Evans Jr. Operating Co. Inc. in northwestern Alabama continues, according to the Southeastern Oil Review. The Laurel, Miss., independent is testing through perforations at 5,641-48 ft., 5,652-56 and 5,659-64 ft. in Lewis Sand at the indicated discovery, the #1 McCrary 4-14 in Section 4-19s-14w, Pickens County. Pipe is set at total depth 5,800 ft. In neighboring Lamar County, Evans is testing after cleaning out to 4,200 ft. and perforating at 3,989-99 ft. at the #1 Old Harmony 33-11, a reentry in Section 33-16s-16w. The wildcat was originally drilled to 5,210 ft. and tested at 4,550-54 ft., 4,559-62 and 4,618-30 ft. with unsuccessful results. Also in Lamar County, the company has completed a producer on the south flank of Southeast Watson Creek Field. The #1 Graham 12-5, Section 12-15s-15w, had an initial flow gauge of 18 bbl. of oil and 15,000 cu. ft. of gas per day on a 14/64-in. choke from Millerella, perforated at 2,696-2,704 ft. 6 Northeastern Mississippi's Monroe County is scheduled to get a new wildcat, the #1 Weyerhaeuser 7-6 planned by Denbury Resources Inc., Plano. Texas. IHS Energy Group says the new location is in Section 7-15s-16w. Projected depth is 4,600 ft. The nearest drilling is a 3,336-ft. dry hole a little more than 0.5-mile west-northwest. Elsewhere in Monroe County, in Section 5-12s-6e, pipe is set at a total depth of 2,501 ft. at the Continental Resources Inc. #1 Stovall Farms 5-16. Enid, Okla.-based Continental drilled the prospect a little more than 0.5-mile southwest of a 2,505-ft. Nettleton Field well that flowed 1.755 million cu. ft. of gas per day on a 48/64-in. choke from Evans Sand, perforated at 2,138-54 ft. 7 Gibraltar Energy Co., an Arkansas operator based in El Dorado, is production testing Lewis Sand at the #1 McCullough 6-16, a Paleozoic wildcat in Section 6-12s-4e, Chickasaw County, Miss. Pipe is set on bottom at 2,763 ft. The Southeastern Oil Review reports Gibraltar recovered a low volume of gas from Evans Sand and plugged back to evaluate Lewis. 8 Knoxville-based Tengasco Inc. has reported the recent results of its current 20-well drilling program under way in its 50,500-acre Swan Creek Field in Hancock County, Tenn. The 4,860-ft. #9 Paul Reed, Section 10-1s-74e, Swan Island Quad, has been connected to the company's pipeline and is producing approximately 400,000 cu. ft. of gas per day on a 1-in. choke from Knox. This is the second gas well of the program. The first well, the #2 Colson, continues to produce steadily, also at approximately 400,000 cu. ft. per day. Tengasco says it intends to drill about 15 more tests to the Knox in the field. Additionally, an Ordovician Stones River oil well, the #5 Paul Reed, is producing 100 bbl. per day. It bottomed at 2,910 ft. Two additional oil prospects-the # 8 Paul Reed and #1 Colson-are being completed. 9 Penn Virginia Corp., Radnor, Pa., and Dallas-based CDX Gas LLC have reached an agreement that established an area of mutual interest (AMI) covering about 16,000 square miles in central Appalachia to conduct coalbed-methane and Devonian Shale exploration and development programs. The programs will utilize horizontal drilling technology developed by CDX. The agreement is generally for five years and permits either company to propose wells. Penn Virginia and CDX with have working interests of 60% and 40%, respectively, in future projects conducted on property owned by Penn Virginia within the AMI. The companies will generally each have a 50% working interest on future AMI projects conducted on property not currently owned by Penn Virginia. CDX will operate the projects during the drilling phase and PennVirginia will become the operator once successful projects commence production. 10 Australian Canadian Oil Royalties Ltd. (ACOR), Cisco, Texas, says a new gas-producing area has been discovered and is being developed on the southeast and west sides of Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky. ACOR acquired a 12.5% working interest from the operator, Bardstown, Ky., independent Resource & Energy Technologies LLC, in an area of mutual interest in the Park City and Rhoda quads. ACOR's president, Ely Sakhai, also purchased a 12.5% working interest. The AMI covers several thousand acres and lease acquisition is being pursued aggressively at this time. Fourteen wells have been drilled following a major fracture trend and 10 more locations have been identified and are being prepared for drilling. ACOR reports two current Edmonson County exploratory tests apparently are successful-the #1 Tarter in Section 15-H-41, Rhoda Quad, and the #3 Jackie McCombs in Section 12-H-40e, Smiths Grove Quad. The former encountered 31 ft. of oil and gas saturated lime and has been cased, while the latter found gas at 1,020 ft. (it blew out and later was brought under control in a manner that will allow the well to be produced). Both ventures had target depths of 1,000 ft. in Devonian Corniferous. 11 More horizontal work is scheduled for Illinois' Miletus Field in Marion County, with Deep Rock Energy Corp. having revealed plans to drill another venture in a series of horizontal Devonian Geneva tests. IHS Energy Group says the Salem, Ill., firm's new venture is the #2 SDU-Carter in section 32-4n-4e. True vertical depth in Geneva is expected to be 3,890 ft. The surface location is just off to the west side of Stephen A. Forbes State Park, while the projected bottomhole location is beneath the park. The new project lies a mile southwest of the company's #1 SDU-Warren, a Geneva producer that last March was credited with a flow of oil in the 2,000-bbl.-per-day range. State figures indicate average production during June was about 2,739 bbl. of oil per day. 12 Atwater Valley Block 261 is the site where BHP Petroleum (GOM) Inc. plans to conduct new exploratory work. According to the initial plan of exploration submitted by the company, up to four remote wildcats could be drilled on the block, all from separate surface locations. There has been no drilling on Block 261 located in 8,313 ft. to 8,334 ft. of water. The nearest activity is 40 miles northwest at Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corp.'s Merganser discovery, drilled on Atwater Valley Block 37 in 7,900 ft. of water.
