1 Operators drilling exploratory tests in Alabama's Escambia and Conecuh counties continue to be rewarded with high-flowing discoveries. IHS Energy Group reports two such wells are the Pruet Production Co. #1 ATIC 8-5, which was completed flowing 416 bbl. of oil and 117,000 cu. ft. of gas per day, and the Century Exploration Co. Inc. #1 D.W. McMillan 31-15, which gave up a flow of 360 bbl. of oil and 99,000 cu. ft. of gas per day at completion. Both discoveries, which were tested on a 10/64-in. choke, are producing from Jurassic Smackover. Jackson, Miss., independent Pruet perforated at 14,166-78 ft. at its wildcat, in Section 8-3n-7e, Escambia County. Metairie, La.-based Century's well, in Section 31-4n-10e, Conecuh County, is producing through perforations at 12,604-13 ft. 2 Another Conecuh County wildcat-the Bright Star Management LLC #1 Kelly 16-2 in Section 16-5n-8e-is an indicated Smackover discovery. The Southeastern Oil Review says the Jackson, Miss., firm is testing through several perforated intervals between 12,368-12,508 ft. The prospect was drilled at a site about six miles northeast of East Corley Creek Field. 3 Palmer Petroleum Inc., Shreveport, is waiting on completion tools after setting pipe at a total depth of 11,383 ft. at the #1 McCall 1-11, a west offset to the opener of North Monroeville Field in Monroe County, Ala. The Southeastern Oil Review notes Palmer's prospect is the second offset to the discovery on which production casing has been run. The company earlier set pipe on bottom at 11,301 ft. at the #1 McCall 1-7, a northwest offset to the discovery, Palmer's #2 Vanity Fair 1-9 that had an initial flow gauge of 298 bbl. of oil and 157,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. The new-field opener was tested on a 12/64-in. choke through perforations at 10,906-14 ft. in the Frisco City Sand of Jurassic Haynesville. The three tests are in Section 1-6n-7e. 4 A Pickens County, Ala., discovery completed by S. Lavon Evans Jr. Operating Co. Inc. flowed oil at the rate of 188 bbl. per day and gas at estimated rates from 80,000 to 120,000 cu. ft. per day through a 14/64-in. choke, reports the operator. The successful wildcat is the #1 Carpenter 9-4 in Section 9-19s-14w. It's producing from Chandler Sand, perforated at 4,796-4,804 ft. The Laurel, Miss., firm notes a south offset, the #1 Munroe 9-5, is drilling at 3,200 ft. The discovery offsets to the northeast an unsuccessful venture that was drilled to a total depth of 5,815 ft. Testing through perforations at 5,730-41 ft. and 5,756-60 ft. failed to establish commercial production and the project was abandoned in 1986. 5 Shows were found in an unidentified formation and pipe has been set at a total depth of 5,010 ft. at the Munoco Co. LC #1 Richards 23-5, a Paleozoic wildcat in Section 23-16s-15w, Lamar County, Ala. El Dorado, Ark.-based Munoco is waiting on a completion rig at the prospect, a mile east of Chandler Sand gas production from 3,610-24 ft. in Mt. Zion Field, according to the Southeastern Oil Review. 6 Roundtree & Associates Inc., Jackson, Miss., cleaned out to 2,759 ft. and is testing the #1 Woodard 14-14 in Section 14-14s-11w, Fayette County, Ala. The wildcat was originally drilled to a total depth of 2,850 ft., where pipe was set. It flowed 375,000 cu. ft. of gas per day through perforations at 2,096-2,102 ft. when completed in May 1988. 7 In Illinois, IBEX Geological Consultants Inc., Champaign, Ill., plans to evaluate formations through Silurian at a wildcat scheduled to a depth of 2,500 ft. IHS Energy Group reports the #22-1 Ibex/Nyvatex-Albers is in Section 22-1n-4w, Clinton County. It's 2.5 miles west-southwest of the closest producers in Barrelso West Field, where wells produce oil from Mississippian Cypress at about 950 ft. and Silurian at approximately 2,400 ft. The new venture also lies three miles southwest of Germantown East Field, a Siluro-Devonian oil pool that produces from about 2,400 ft. 8 Mississippian zones through Salem are scheduled to be tested at an 1,800-ft. wildcat staked by BuRay LLC in Pike County, Ind. The Evansville firm's project is the #1 Gray Estates-Gray Farms in Section 33-2s-7w. The nearest producing wells are about 1.5 miles east in Fritz Corner Field. 9 Young Oil Corp., Knob Lick, Ky., says it tested its second flowing oil well in Metcalfe County, Ky., when the #4 Sylvia Mitchell came in flowing 30 bbl. per hr. from Mississippian Fort Payne Reef. The company notes the well, in Section 24-H-46, Sulphur Well Quad, was drilled to a total depth of 530 ft. It had an initial production rate of more than 700 bbl. per day and has been choked to about half that rate. Earlier, the 524-ft. #3 Sylvia Mitchell, also in Section 24, came in flowing 60 bbl. of oil per hr. when drilled into Fort Payne Reef. The wells are in Knob Lick Consolidated Field. Young says it believes it has about defined the limits of the field and there is room for at least 30 more wells. The company has about 900 acres under lease in the area. 10 Journey Oil & Gas LLC and Journey Acquisition-II LP say they have acquired certain oil and gas properties in southeastern Kentucky from Equitable Production Co. and KRCC Oil & Gas Co. Inc. The properties consist of interests in 435 producing oil and gas wells, most of them in Perry, Leslie and Letcher counties. Journey Acquisition-II LP is a partnership formed by Journey Oil & Gas LLC and GE Capital Oil & Gas, in which Journey Oil & Gas is the general partner and its subsidiary, Journey Operating, is the operator. Based in Houston, Journey Oil & Gas LLC was formed in 1998 to acquire and develop oil and gas properties in the continental U.S. GE Capital Oil & Gas is a unit of GE Capital Structured Finance Group, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Electric Co. 11 Calgary independent Mar Oil Co. is set to conduct new exploration in neighboring Marion and Wyandot counties in Ohio. IHS Energy Group says the company has staked two 2,500-ft. new-field wildcats that are designed to evaluate zones from Ordovician Trenton to Cambrian Trempealeau. They are the #1 Roszman in Section 29, Grand Township, Marion County, and the #1 Leslie in Section 12, Marseilles Township, Wyandot County. Both ventures are in Marseilles Quad. 12 Conductor pipe is set at the Pennsylvania General Energy #1460 Pace and the operator is waiting on rotary tools to drill to a projected depth of 10,140 ft. at the wildcat, in Steuben County, N.Y. The Warren, Pa., operator's test is in Section H of Corning Quad, Corning Township. The operator plans to test Trenton-Black River. 13 An openhole completion in Trenton-Black River between 9,780 and 11,086 ft., total depth, has resulted in a flow of 2.5 million cu. ft. of gas per day at the Columbia Natural Resources Inc. #24114 Twyman in Roane County, W.Va. The Charleston, W.Va.-based company drilled the well in Smithfield District, Tariff Quad. 14 Two deeper-pool tests targeting Trenton-Black River are scheduled by Cabot Oil & Gas Corp., Houston, in Dekalb District, Gilmer County, W.Va., according to IHS Energy Group. They are the #1 Frashure in Burnt House Quad and the #1 Ferguson in Grantsville Quad. Both of the exploratory ventures have a target depth of 21,000 ft. in Precambrian.
