1 A Mississippian wildcat has been scheduled by Cliff D. Price Oil & Gas Properties, Longview, Texas, at the #36-1 Costa in Section 36-1s-1e, Jefferson County, Ill. IHS Energy Group reports the venture has a projected depth of 2,300 ft. to evaluate formations through Rosiclare. The new location is nearly a mile south of the closest previous production on the southwestern flank of Boyd Field. 2 A northern Illinois Basin wildcat staked by Deep River Oil & Gas Development, Hobart, Ind., is to be drilled to 1,200 ft. to test zones through Devonian. The new venture is the #1 Burnside in Section 7-13n-12w, Edgar County, Ill. It's three miles east of Dudley Field, which has produced oil from Pennsylvanian reservoirs between 300 and 400 ft. The closest Devonian production, from 1,950 ft., is about 10 miles to the southeast in Elbridge Field. 3 Northern Indiana's Wabash County is the site of a remote wildcat staked by Dart Oil & Gas Corp., Mason, Mich. The #1 Hunter Trust, Section 36-29n-5e, is the latest in a series of remote wildcats planned by Dart in northern Indiana. The new venture, scheduled to go to a depth of 1,500 ft. for tests of formations through Cambro-Ordovician Knox, is seven miles northwest of the nearest previous production in Urbana Field, a 1,050-ft. Ordovician Trenton oil pool that produced from 1966 until 1992. 4 Bowling Green, Ky.-based Blue Ridge Energy Inc. says 12 gas wells have been drilled in its Boon's Camp LP in Johnson County, Ky. The nine wells that have been completed in Pennsylvanian Maxon Sand zones and/or Devonian Shale are producing approximately 550,000 to 650,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. The company says present production rates have been constrained due to field line pressures and that it is assessing the feasibility of upgrading the gathering system. Although completion of the remaining wells has been delayed by inclement weather, it is anticipated they will be completed in the near future. Blue Ridge says it will drill one or two more tests to Maxon. Blue Ridge Energy also has announced plans to develop, in a joint venture with Hay Exploration Inc., Ashland, Ky., approximately 18,000 acres of undeveloped oil and gas leases in the Licking River and Cannel City prospects in Morgan County, Ky. In addition to development of shallow gas wells at depths of about 1,500 ft., the prospects will evaluate development potential of Ordovician St. Peter at 5,000 ft. Blue Ridge owns a 50% working interest in these prospects. 5 The Shell Western E&P Inc. #3-1 HD1 Salling-Hanson is a new horizontal wildcat scheduled to be drilled in Crawford County, Mich. The venture is in Section 1-27n-4w, Frederic Township, about three miles south of Shell's opener of Frederic 24-28n-4w Field, reports IHS Energy Group. The company plans to drill to 6,910 ft. to test Silurian Niagaran. 6 Michigan is scheduled to get another horizontal Niagaran wildcat, the #1-36 HD1 State-Allis that's planned by PetroStar Energy for Presque Isle County. Projected depth is 5,549 ft. in Brown Niagaran at the test, located in Section 36-33n-2e, Allis Township. The Traverse City, Mich., independent's drillsite is 4.5 miles southeast of the Allis 29-33n-2e Field discovery, a Silurian A-1 Carbonate and Niagaran oil and gas producer. 7 Columbus independent CGAS Exploration Inc. is set to drill two deeper-pool wildcats to Cambrian Trempealeau in Gnadenhutten Quad, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Both in areas of Silurian Clinton production, they are the #5-3048 Allgyer Unit in Section 19, Clay Township, and the #5-3049 Long Unit in Section 15, Rush Township. The former is projected to a depth of 8,150 ft., while the latter's projected depth is 8,300 ft. 8 Plans call for Ordovician Trenton-Black River to be tested at a new exploratory venture staked by Eastern American Energy Corp., Charleston, W.Va., in northeastern Ohio's Ashtabula County. Eastern American's project is the #1 Gage in Lot 21, Rome Township, Jefferson Quad. It's a 6,200-ft. deeper-pool wildcat in an unnamed field that produces from Clinton. 9 Chemung County, N.Y., is to see a considerable amount of new Trenton-Black River exploration, with several new wildcats having been scheduled by Fairman Drilling Co., DuBois, Pa.; Pennsylvania General Energy, Warren, Pa.; and Columbia Natural Resources Inc., Charleston, W.Va. Fairman's #1 Johnson in Veteran Township, Section I of Montour Falls Quad, is to be drilled to 9,600 ft. Pennsylvania General plans to drill two tests in Catlin Township-the 10,160-ft. #1447 Hardy in Section B of Big Flats Quad, and the 9,800-ft. #1446 Gregory in Section F of Big Flats Quad. Projected depth is 10,715 ft. at Columbia's #624538 Burlew in Erin Township, Section G of Erin Quad. 10 Century Exploration Co. Inc., Metairie, La., logged shows in Jurassic Smackover and is preparing to production-test the formation at an indicated discovery in Alabama's Conecuh County, according to the Southeastern Oil Review. Century's prospect is the #1 D.W. McMillan 31-15 in Section 31-4n-10e. The company drilled to a total depth of 12,790 ft. and ran production casing to that depth. About 1,500 ft. to the west, a 12,906-ft. test was drilled and abandoned in 1986. A little less than a mile to the southwest, an Escambia County Smackover test was abandoned in 1976 after a drillstem test was run in the top of Smackover at 12,794-12,800 ft. 11 Exxon Mobil Corp. is preparing to test through perforations between 22,258-22,538 ft. in Jurassic Norphlet at the #4 State Lease 624, Tract 114, offshore Baldwin County, Ala. The Southeastern Oil Review reports that the prospect, drilled to a total depth of 22,655 ft. in sidetracked hole, lies about 0.75-mile east of Norphlet production in North Central Gulf Field. Meanwhile, the company plans to drill an offset to the discovery of Northwest Gulf Field offshore Mobile County, Ala. The new venture, the #4 State Lease 537, Tract 112, has a projected depth of 22,000 ft. to evaluate Norphlet. 12 Activity in northwestern Alabama continues to attract its share of the industry spotlight.
