1 Hopper Resources Inc. , Evansville, pumped 214 bbl. of oil per day, with a trace of water, at the #1 Mezo, a Devonian Dutch Creek discovery completed within the city limits of Centralia, Ill. According to IHS Energy Group, the new producer, in Section 19-1n-1e, Marion County, is producing from an openhole section in Dutch Creek at 2,928-46 ft. Hopper also found shows of oil in Mississippian Benoist, which will be evaluated at the company's 1,450-ft. #1-B Mezo, a west offset to the discovery. 2 Pennsylvanian Maxon at 2,580-2,640 ft. gave up a flow of 1.55 million cu. ft. of gas per day at the 2,704-ft. #65 Huber-EREC at completion by Daugherty Petroleum Inc. , Lexington, in Bell County, Ky. The well is in Section 5-C-69, Kayjay Quad, in a previously undrilled area of its 14,000-acre farmout. Most of the acreage is in Knox County. However, there is a small amount in Bell County. The #65 well, in which Daugherty owns a 24% working interest, is the second one on the farmout acreage to encounter commercial quantities of gas in Maxon, although a total of 41 wells have been successfully completed in other formations. 3 A development well completed by Lexington independent Energy Associates Inc. in Kentucky's Mountain Ash Field flowed 3.887 million cu. ft. of gas per day from Mississippian Big Lime. It's the #EA29 Princeton et al. in Section 25-C-65, Jellico East Quad, Whitley County, reports IHS Energy Group. The well, drilled to a total depth of 2,033 ft., is producing from an openhole interval between 1,389-1,526 ft. 4 Savoy Exploration Inc. and Savoy Energy LP , Traverse City, Mich., have announced the completion of a horizontal redrill in Grand Traverse County, Mich., producing at the rate of 306 bbl. of oil and 190,000 cu. ft. of gas per day at the end of a 14-hr. flow test period. The well is the #1-16 HD-1 State Grant, in Section 16-25n-12w, Grant Township. It was drilled out of the previously producing wellbore in the operators' #1-16 State Grant, going horizontal at approximately 5,576 ft. (true vertical depth) in the previously producing Silurian Niagaran Reef formation. The Niagaran lateral section is approximately 600 ft. in length. 5 Traverse City-based West Bay Exploration Co. has scheduled an exploratory test at the #1-31 Kensington Metropark in Milford Township, Oakland County, Mich. The venture, which has a projected depth of 3,800 ft. in Niagaran, is to be drilled from a surface location in Section 30-2n-7e to a bottomhole location in Section 31. It's a stepout from the Milford 30-2n-7e Field discovery, according to IHS Energy Group. 6 Ohio's Ross County is the site of a pair of exploratory tests staked by Kastle Resources Enterprises Inc. , Edinboro, Pa. They are the #5 Tar Hollow State Forest in Section 35, Colerain Township, Hallsville Quad, and the #6 in Section 11, Harrison Township, Londonderry Quad. The #5 test, projected to 5,000 ft. in Cambrian Mt. Simon, is in an unnamed field that has production from Cambro-Ordovician Beekmantown and Cambrian Rose Run. The #6 is to go to 4,000 ft. in Ordovician Trenton-Black River and is in an unnamed Beekmantown pool. 7 Fairman Drilling Co. , DuBois, Pa., has added to its Trenton-Black River exploration program near the town of Odessa in Chemung County, N.Y., having staked a new wildcat at the #1 Clauss. The 9,500-ft. venture is in Section H of Montour Falls Quad, Veteran Township. Fairman has drilled several Trenton-Black River tests in this part of Chemung County, including several producers. 8 Houston-based Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. reports its exploratory well, the #1 C.J. Coal in Somerset County, Pa., yielded 250,000 cu. ft. of gas per day during tests of untreated Devonian Chert and Oriskany, and is expected to be turned on line at a rate of more than 1 million cu. ft. of gas per day following fracture treatment. The well, in Section C of Somerset Quad, Jenner Township, encountered 14 ft. of pay in the two formations while being drilled to an approximate total depth of 9,100 ft. Cabot notes it has a 100% working interest (87.5% net revenue interest) in the well and is the operator. 9 Several areas of West Virginia continue to see deep exploration. Included are two 22,000-ft. deeper-pool wildcats scheduled by Ardent Resources Inc. on its Francis Cain lease in the Bells Ford Field area of Calhoun County. They are the #1A and #1B tests in Center District, Grantsville Quad. Precambrian is to be penetrated at both ventures, with Trenton-Black River and Cambrian Copper Ridge being the primary objectives. IHS Energy Group says Bethel Park, Pa.-based Ardent, Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. and Glenville, W.Va., independent Trio Petroleum Inc. all have plans to drill deep tests in this area of Calhoun County. 10 Another new test to Precambrian is scheduled in West Virginia, this one the BNG Production & Drilling Inc. #1 Crouse in Smithfield District, Tariff Quad, Roane County. BNG, of Spencer, W.Va., plans to drill to a depth of 18,000 ft. at the deeper-pool wildcat. 11 Still another new deeper-pool venture in West Virginia is to be drilled to Precambrian. Projected depth is 21,000 ft. at the #1 Carter/MacAllaster, staked by Fairman Drilling Co. in Ritchie County. The drillsite is in Union District, Auburn Quad, in the Auburn Field area. 12 Eastern American Energy Corp. , Charleston, is set to drill two 10,500-ft. deeper-pool wildcats in Ravenswood District, Sandyville Quad, Jackson County, W.Va.
