1 Parrish Oil Production Inc., Newton, Ill., has staked the #1 Orville Seesengood, an exploratory test in Richland County, Ill. IHS Energy Group says the venture, in Section 16-4n-9e, is scheduled to be drilled to a depth of 3,150 ft. to test Mississippian McClosky. The drillsite is 0.75-mile east of inactive wells in Passport South Field. Established in 1948, the field produced from several Mississippian zones, ranging from Tar Springs at about 2,350 ft. to McClosky at 3,050 ft. 2 A well completed by Denver-based Headington Oil LP in Illinois' Mill Shoals Field yielded 147 bbl. of oil and 50 bbl. of water per day. Headington's #53X-25 Poorman is producing on pump from several Mississippian formations-Aux Vases at 3,224-44 ft., O'Hara at 3,308-12, McClosky "B" at 3,362-74 and McClosky "C" at 3,385-95 ft. The new producer is in Section 25-3s-7e, Hamilton County. 3 The initial flow rate was 45 bbl. of oil per day at a development well completed by Dobbs Oil & Gas Inc. in a Mississippian Paint Creek pool in Ohio County, Ky. Located in Section 1-M-30, the Whitesville, Ky., independent's #1 Roby & Hazelwood is producing from an openhole Paint Creek Sand interval at 1,168-77 ft. The pool was established in March 1999 by J.R. Watts, Owensboro, at the #1 Wayne Watts, also in Section 1-M-30. Watts tapped Paint Creek at 1,135-60 ft. for 4 bbl. of oil per hr., pumping and flowing, at the discovery. 4 Columbia Natural Resources Inc., Charleston, W.Va., has added two wildcats to its exploratory drilling program on the Ark Land Co. lease in Letcher County, Ky. According to IHS Energy Group, drilling has started at the 4,900-ft. #824039 test in Section 15-G-81. The #823983 venture, that's still a location in Section 25-G-81, has a projected depth of 5,500 ft. Both tests, in Whitesburg Quad, are scheduled to penetrate Lower Devonian. 5 Also in Kentucky, Planet Energy LLC is moving in rotary tools to drill the #1 Hensley (Clay/Leslie Industrial Park) in Section 20-H-70, Ogle Quad, Clay County. The Andersonville, Tenn., independent intends to drill the wildcat to 3,000 ft. to evaluate Siluro-Devonian Corniferous. The new test is nearly 3 miles northeast of an unnamed Devonian pool. 6 Ordovician Glenwood is the objective of the 8,250-ft. #1-20 Carr et al., a wildcat staked by Traverse City, Mich.-based Savoy Energy LP in Montcalm County, Mich. The new venture, which has a surface location in Section 20-12n-8w, Cato Township, is to be directionally drilled. The closest production, from Glenwood, is 2 miles to the northwest in Cato Field. 7 Another Traverse City independent-PetroStar Energy-has plans to drill an exploratory test, this one in Michigan's Presque Isle County. PetroStar is set to horizontally redrill the #1-12A HD1 State-Allis in Section 12-22n-2e, Allis Township. The wildcat has a projected depth of 5,128 ft. in Silurian Niagaran. It's a redrill of the Shell Western E&P Inc. #1-12 State-Allis, which was vertically drilled to a total depth of 3,822 ft. and plugged in 1982. In February, PetroStar re-entered the dry hole and directionally redrilled the well for tests of Niagaran at 3,960 ft. IHS Energy Group notes production casing apparently was set, but no details are reported. 8 Michigan's Vernon-Rosebush Field area is scheduled to get its first horizontal test, to be drilled by still another Traverse City operator-Cronus Exploration Co. LLC. Cronus plans to horizontally drill the #13-23 HD1 Smock from a surface location in Section 23-16n-4w, Vernon Township, Isabella County, eastward to a proposed bottomhole location in the same section. The test has a measured projected depth of 5,020 ft. in Devonian Dundee Limestone. 9 Clearfield County, Pa., is slated to get new exploration, the result of two 8,000-ft. wildcats staked by Mountainside Oil & Gas Inc., Farmington, Pa. Both the #1 Power Land Co. and #1 Avery are in Section B of Houtzdale Quad, Decatur Township, about a mile and a half northeast of Parsonville Field. The two ventures are set up to test zones through Lower Devonian Oriskany. 10 Gas flow amounted to 1.391 million cu. ft. per day at the #2 Mason, a multi-zone producer completed by Dominion Appalachian Development Inc., Jane Lew, W.Va., in West Virginia's Brown-Lumberport Field. The development well is in Clay District, Shinnston Quad, Harrison County. It's producing from five zones-Squaw at 1,842-50 ft., Gantz at 2,164-70, Gordon at 2,302-65, Fifth Sand between 2,456-2,595 and Balltown between 3,630-3,827 ft. 11 In Tennessee, Tengasco Inc., Knoxville, continues to be very active in the Swan Creek Field area. The company reports its #1 Woodrow Davis, an exploratory test 2 miles from the field in Section 14-1s-74e, Howard Quarter Quad, Claiborne County, is being completed after encountering 26 ft. of net pay in Cambro-Ordovician Knox in three intervals between 4,524-4,678 ft. The well encountered the Knox consistent with the company's mapping of the Swan Creek structure, which has been seismically defined at more than 21 miles in length. Tengasco says prior to the drilling of this well, the 101 billion cu. ft. of proved gas and gas equivalent assigned the Swan Creek Field had been limited to an approximate six-square-mile area. Much of Tengasco's activity in the field is centered in Section 6-1s-75e, Swan Island Quad, Hancock County. A test drilled recently in the area-the #2 Laura Jean Lawson-encountered 160 ft. of net pay in Knox between 4,610-4,980 ft. Tengasco says this is the largest Knox net pay interval found in Swan Creek Field to date. The well also has 14 ft. of net oil pay in Ordovician Murfreesboro at 4,006-20 ft. Follow-up drilling is planned to develop this new potentially productive horizon. Also, further up the hole, the company logged 60 ft. of net pay in Ordovician Trenton. 12 Miller Petroleum Inc., Huntsville, Tenn., is drilling toward a target depth of 5,000 ft. in Devonian Shale at a new-field wildcat in Hawkins County, Tenn. According to IHS Energy Group, the #1 Bernardo Valletta is in Section 14-1s-78e, Camelot Quad. There are no producing wells within 2 miles of the project. 13 Georgia has a drilling wildcat-the Atlantic Oil & Gas LLC #1 Ronney S. Ledford in Dooly County. Atlantic, of Perry, Ga., is drilling below 1,300 ft. on the way to a projected depth of 5,000 ft. The venture, in Land Lot 80, District 6, is only the third test to be drilled in the county. In fact, if the #1 Ledford is successfully completed, it would be the first producer in Georgia. 14 Exxon Mobil Corp. is moving in a rig to drill the #2 State Lease 535, Tract 63, a Jurassic Norphlet test in the Bon Secour Field area offshore Baldwin County, Ala. The project is scheduled to go to a measured total depth of 21,470 ft. (a true vertical depth of 21,307 ft.), reports the Southeastern Oil Review. It's a mile west of the Exxon #1 State Lease 535, in the Lower Mobile Bay area. At completion, the latter well flowed 28 million cu. ft. of gas per day on a 48/64-in. choke through perforations at 20,779-92 ft. in Norphlet. 15 Jurassic Smackover is the formation scheduled to be tested at a new-field wildcat staked by The Wiser Oil Co., Dallas, in Alabama's Conecuh County. According to the Southeastern Oil Review, Wiser's project is the 12,500-ft. #1 D.W. McMillan Trust 15-7 in Section 15-4n-10e. The drillsite is about 14 miles east and slightly north of Southwest Range Field, which produced oil from Smackover. And, a little more than 5 miles to the southwest in Escambia County lies the one-well Appleton Northwest Field that's also productive from Smackover.
