1 Little D Drilling, Lawrenceville, Ill., is nearing 2,700 ft. at a Clay County, Ill., deeper-pool test it intends to take to a depth of 5,500 ft. IHS Energy Group reports the #1-A Chaffin, in Section 5-3n-7e, Sailor Springs Consolidated Field, is being drilled to evaluate Silurian. Existing production in this area of the field is from Mississippian Rosiclare at an approximate depth of 2,980 ft. 2 Mt. Vernon, Ill., independent Geo Search has moved in rotary tools to drill the #5-1 Illinois Minerals, a new-field wildcat in Section 5-5s-2e, Franklin County, Ill. Primary objective of the venture, about two miles northwest of Sesser Consolidated Field, is Mississippian Warsaw at 3,800 ft. 3 Cambro-Ordovician Knox is to be tested at the Team Energy LLC #1 R. Ridge, a Sullivan County, Ind., wildcat that's to be deepened to 5,550 ft. In January 1999, the Bridgeport, Ill., operator drilled to a total depth of 2,632 ft. at the project, in Section 19-7n-8w. Completion details were not revealed. 4 Drilling is under way at the #1 Yochum, a Knox County, Ind., exploratory venture operated by Jordan Oil Co. Inc., Vincennes, Ind. IHS Energy Group says the company intends to drill to a depth of 2,500 ft. in Warsaw at the deeper-pool wildcat, about a half-mile off the northeastern flank of St. Thomas Consolidated Field in Section 8-2n-10w. 5 Donald B. Smith, Calhoun, Ky., is drilling below 2,600 ft. at the #1 Miles Sterret in Section 18-N-27, McLean County, Ky. The venture was originally drilled as a 2,250-ft. development test in Cleopatra Consolidated Field. It's now classified as a deeper-pool wildcat that's scheduled to go to about 4,000 ft. in Devonian Dutch Creek. 6 Savoy Exploration Inc. and Savoy Energy LP, Traverse City, Mich., report the first horizontal development well in Michigan's Onekama 26 Field is producing its allowable of 300 bbl. of oil and 430,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from Silurian Niagaran. The Savoy Energy LP #1-26 HD1 VanderTuig, Section 26-23n-16w, Onekama Township, Manistee County, was drilled horizontally from an approximate depth of 4,150 ft. The horizontal leg extended approximately 700 ft. to the west. Production at the original vertical well, the #1-26 VanderTuig, had declined from 480 bbl. of oil and 500,000 cu. ft. of gas per day at completion in October 1997 to about 70 bbl. of oil and 125,000 cu. ft. of gas per day in September 1999. Savoy is planning a second horizontal development test in Onekama 26 Field as well as a Manistee County new-field wildcat. The new wildcat-the #4-9 Olson in Section 9-22n-16w, Manistee Township-has a projected depth of 4,600 ft. in Niagaran. 7 Eastern Michigan's Bay County is scheduled to get a Devonian new-field wildcat, the Dart Oil & Gas Corp. #1-27 Bradley, reports IHS Energy Group. Mason, Mich.-based Dart plans to drill to a depth of 4,400 ft. to test Richfield at the project, in Section 27-18n-3e, Gibson Township. The drill site is two miles northwest of Richfield production in Saganing Creek Field. 8 Great Lakes Energy Partners LLC has been formed by Range Resources Corp., with headquarters in Fort Worth, and FirstEnergy Corp., based in Akron, creating one of the largest oil and gas producers in the Appalachian Basin, with proved reserves of approximately 450 billion cu. ft. of gas equivalent, about 90% of it gas, and a leasehold position of nearly 1 million gross acres. Great Lakes expects to increase production by active development of existing fields and exploitation of deeper formations. 9 A shallow producer completed by Kastle Resources Enterprises Inc., Edinboro, Pa., in northeastern Ohio's Geneva Field flowed 3.4 million cu. ft. of gas per day from Devonian Ohio Shale. Kastle's #3 R.L. Stevens, Lot 10, Geneva Township, Geneva Quad, Ashtabula County, was tested from an openhole interval between 200 and 578 ft., total depth. 10 Projected depth is 8,000 ft. in Cambrian Mount Simon at the NGO Development Corp. #1 Lett Unit, Falls Township, Dresden Quad, Muskingum County, Ohio. IHS Energy Group reports Newark, Ohio-based NGO Development's venture is a deeper-pool wildcat in an area of Silurian Clinton production in Solom Field. 11 Another deeper-pool wildcat set for Ohio is the #1 Mary Shaffer, scheduled to be drilled to 7,900 ft. in Upper Cambrian Rose Run by Green Gas Co., Wooster, Ohio. The exploratory test is in Section 1, Valley Township, Byesville Quad, Guernsey County. It's situated in Opperman Field. 12 Columbia Natural Resources Inc., Charleston, has staked another wildcat in its exploratory drilling program in Webster County, W.Va., according to IHS Energy Group.
