NextDecade announced a 20-year, 1.5 million tons per annum (mtpa) supply deal with TotalEnergies from its developing Rio Grande LNG facility in Brownsville, Texas.
TotalEnergies Gas & Power North America will purchase the LNG from Rio Grande’s Train 4, a part of the overall project that has yet to reach a final investment decision. Trains 1-3 have been under construction since 2023.
“TotalEnergies has been a key contributor to the success of Rio Grande LNG Phase 1, and we are pleased to be expanding our strategic partnership with TotalEnergies with the execution of this Train 4 SPA,” said Matt Schatzman, NextDecade’s chairman and CEO.
NextDecade has now contracted 4.6 mtpa of LNG from Train 4 on a long-term basis. Existing contracts for the train should be sufficient to support a final investment decision, the company said in the announcement.
NextDecade’s plans for Rio Grande LNG have grown from the original plan of five trains. In February, the company announced three more trains planned for development.
