New Era Helium (NEHC) signed a letter of intent to provide natural gas to a 250-megawatt AI data center on 200 acres in Ector County, Texas, in the Permian Basin, the company announced Feb. 27.
New Era signed with Sharon AI to create a joint venture (JV) called Texas Critical Data Centers to develop the data center on the acreage. The companies also worked with GROW Odessa, the city’s development corporation.
The JV plans to create a net-zero data center by taking advantage of Ector County’s already established CO₂ infrastructure and available carbon capture utilization storage (CCUS) facilities.
The proposed “site is one of several identified by the joint venture and is located near key infrastructure, including fiber optic cable, two natural gas transmission lines and CO₂ pipeline infrastructure,” the press release said.
The project is expected to be online by late 2026.
New Era Helium produces natural gas as a byproduct of its helium operations on more than 137,000 acres in Southeast New Mexico.
