1 Calpine Natural Gas Co., Denver, completed a coalbed-methane discovery in northeastern Kansas about five miles northeast of Emporia. The #5-12-18-11 Karr, in Section 12-18s-11e in central Lyon County, tested an unreported interval in a Cherokee coal sequence shallower than 2,167 ft., but most information about the well was kept confidential. The company also kept information tight on its #3-12-18-11 Karr in the same section. The nearest previous production is five miles south, in Hagins Field. That Simpson accumulation was discovered in 1975. Wolverine Environmental Production LLC also has permitted four Lyon County wildcats aimed at coal seams, but the nearest is six miles from the Calpine well, according to IHS Energy. 2 Houston Exploration Co., Houston, tested three high-volume producers from Chismville Field between three and five miles north of Booneville. The #4-16 Chismville, drilled in Section 16-6n-27w, Logan County, Ark., tested at 11.6 million cu. ft. of gas a day from fractured Upper Borum "A" between 4,598 and 4,659 ft. In the same well, fractured Upper Borum "B" and "C" flowed 5.6 million cu. ft. of gas a day from an interval between 5,368 and 5,606 ft., according to IHS Energy. About 0.75-mile southwest in Section 16-6n-27w, the company's #4-16 McCoy flowed at a combined rate of 15.6 million cu. ft. of gas a day from all three Upper Borum intervals. About two miles north-northwest of the McCoy well, in Section 8-6n-27w, the company's #3-8 Chismville flowed at a rate of 8.6 million cu. ft. of gas a day from fractured Turner. 3 Freedom Energy Inc., Fort Smith, completed its #1 Blackjack Ridge for 3.3 million cu. ft. of gas a day from two stimulated Hartford intervals in Section 22-5n-30w, Sebastian County, Ark. The well produced from Upper Hartford "A" between 5,939-80 ft. and from the Upper Hartford "C" between 6,086 and 6,106 ft. The exploratory success is about a mile north-northwest of a Hartford producer completed by Texas Oil & Gas Corp. in 1981. 4 A western Oklahoma new-pool discovery flowed at a rate of 186 bbl. of oil and 50,000 cu. ft. of gas a day with no water for Pride Energy Co., Tulsa. The #1-8 Dean is in Section 8-15n-22w, about eight miles north-northeast of Strong City in Roger Mills County, Okla. It produced through a Cottage Grove interval between 9,424-44 ft. on a 16/64-in. choke. Pride drilled the well to 12,055 ft. 5 Chesapeake Operating Inc., Oklahoma City, posted a discovery in its Cement Field program aimed at the Springer formation. The #1-32 Phariss, in Section 32-6n-10w in southern Caddo County, Okla., tested at a rate of 2.6 million cu. ft. of gas and 14 bbl. of water a day from 11 Springer intervals and 60 ft. of perforations between 18,412 and 18,746 ft. Chesapeake tested the well on a 10/64-in. choke. 6 Jay Petroleum Inc., Oklahoma City, has staked the #1 Van Eaton wildcat in Section 3-9n-13e, almost six miles north-northeast of Hanna in western McIntosh County, Okla. The well is scheduled to evaluate several zones including Red Fork, Bartlesville, Upper Booch, Lower Booch, Gilcrease, Wapanucka, Union Valley, Cromwell and Jefferson to 3,450 ft. The well is two miles southeast of Vernon North Field, which produced from Thurman, Bartlesville, Booch and Gilcrease. 7 Tulsa independent Patrick Exploration Co. took out drilling permits for two wildcats between five and 10 miles north of Coalgate in Coal County, Okla. The #25-1 Sprague is proposed to 3,000 ft. in Section 25-2n-10e, and the #36-1 Pasquali is 4.5 miles north in Section 36-3n-10e with an intended depth of 3,100 ft. Both wells will test the Booch and Hartshorne formations. The nearest production to the Sprague well is three miles south in Coalgate North Field, and the nearest production to the Pasquali well is two miles west in Legal Southwest/Chiles Dome Field. 8 Chesapeake Operating Inc. has reawakened production from the abandoned Austin Southwest Field area in central Lea County, N.M., with its #1 Hampton. The 13,630-ft. wildcat tested at 847,000 cu. ft. of gas and 13 bbl. of condensate from Morrow perforations between 13,336-68 ft. through a 13/64-in. choke. The well is in Section 1-15s-35e, more than a mile north of an Austin Southwest Field well that tested at 1.5 million cu. ft. of gas a day from Mississippian from 12,893 to 13,060 ft. 9 Yates Petroleum Corp., Artesia, N.M., completed a new pool discovery testing at 377,000 cu. ft. of gas a day in a workover of its #1 State "CK" Com. Yates drilled the well in Section 4-17s-26e, Eddy County, N.M., to 8,150 ft. and plugged back to 7,940 ft. before perforating and acidizing between 7,784 ft. and 7,878 ft. in the Atoka formation. The well originally was abandoned at 6,871 ft. in 1966 and Yates later deepened it in 1973 to open Pow Field, which produced from Devonian. 10 Also, a Strawn discovery drilled 15 miles west of Carlsbad, N.M, tested at 302,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from for Yates Petroleum, says IHS Energy. The company drilled the #1 McKittrick "ATS" State in Section 16-22s-24e in western Eddy County, N.M. It produced through acidized perforations between 9,510-16 ft. after being drilled to 10,550 ft. Yates drilled the vertical well out of a directional test abandoned in 1998. 11 J.M. Huber Corp., Amarillo, permitted a deep Ellenburger wildcat to 14,000 ft. in southeastern Roberts County in the Texas Panhandle. It will drill the #1072 Smith immediately south of Miami in Section 72, Block M-2, H&GN Survey, A-952. The well is a little more than a mile west-southwest of the #1-62 Gill well, drilled by Huber two years ago to open Miami Bluffs Field. That well tested 3.4 million cu. ft. of gas, 143 bbl. of condensate and 20 bbl. of water a day from Simpson between 13,460-71 ft. 12 Legacy Exploration LLC, Arlington, Texas, has started drilling a 10,000-ft. wildcat in western Motley County, Texas. The #1-01 D.M. Cogdell Jr. Estate is in Block GP, C&M RR Co. Survey, A-246 about 15 miles northwest of Matador and five miles east of the Floyd County boundary line. The new well is about a quarter-mile north of the opener for Birnie Field in the same section, drilled in 1958. That well tested at an initial potential of 413,000 cu. ft. of gas and 75 bbl. of oil a day. 13 Masada Oil & Gas Co., Quanah, Texas, completed three low-volume discoveries in eastern Hardeman County, Texas. The wells are about eight miles east-northeast of the company's headquarters, according to IHS Energy. The #1 Loveless, in Section 30, Block C11, W&NW Survey, A-1814 tested at three bbl. of oil a day through an openhole Permian interval between 340 and 450 ft. It confirmed the discovery with the #2 Loveless, drilled immediately east in the same section. That well also tested at three bbl. of oil a day. The #6 Loveless in the same section was a southeastern offset to the #2 well. Masada plans the #1 Ann a mile to the south-southeast of the #6 well in the same section. 14 Gunn Oil Co., Wichita Falls, permitted a 6,200-ft. wildcat about eight miles north of Peacock in northwestern Stonewall County, Texas.
