1 Schoenchen, Kan.-based independent Castle Resources Inc. completed a new Arbuckle producer in Kansas' Rush County, according to IHS Energy. The #1 North, Section 23-16s-20w, was tested through untreated perforations at 3,884-86 ft. and pumped oil at an initial natural rate of 200 bbl. per day with no gas or water. Less than a mile northeast is the #1 Stull, Section 14-16s-20w, which Castle completed in May. This venture is 0.33-mile southwest of wells on the southern flank of Keough Northeast Field, a multipay pool discovered in 1981. The 15 wells in this field report oil production totaling 429,000 bbl., primarily from the Arbuckle. 2 The Houston Exploration Co. completed a 10-million-cu.-ft.-per-day gas producer in Arkansas' Gragg Field. The eastern Sebastian County prospect, drilled to 5,643 ft., was tested on a 32/64-in. choke with 320-psi flowing tubing pressure. The well is the third producer in Section 27-6n-29w. In 2000, the Houston-based operator completed the #3 Koplitz, flowing 2 million cu. ft. of gas per day from subthrusted Upper Borum sand. 3 An Arkoma Basin producer flowed 5.63 million cu. ft. of gas per day, with no water, in Arkansas' Chismville Field. The Houston Exploration Co.'s #3-17 Chismville Gas Unit 1 is in Section 17-6n-27w, western Logan County. The company tested the well on a 32/64-in. choke with 250-psi flowing tubing pressure. The 6,200-ft. prospect is 2.5 miles north of the town of Booneville, and a mile north of another Borum well completed by Houston. Chismville Field, discovered 43 years ago, has produced 46.4 billion cu. ft. of gas, primarily from the Borum. 4 Tyler, Texas-based Mewbourne Oil Co. has staked a 15,300-ft. western Anadarko Basin wildcat. Objectives at the #1 Donald "36," Section 36-15n-25w, are: Douglas at approximately 7,768 ft.; Tonkawa at 8,571 ft.; Marathon at 10,901 ft.; and Upper Morrow at 14,048 ft. The western Roger Mills County, Okla., drillsite is less than a mile east of Mackie Field, a four-well pool scattered over three miles along the Washita River. 5 IHS Energy reports Anadarko Petroleum Corp. drilled a development test in Oklahoma's prolific Golden Trend. The 11,052-ft. project flowed 220 bbl. of oil, 876,000 cu. ft. of gas and 617 bbl. of water per day from seven formations. Production from the #2 Bullock "A," Section 19-4n-3w, was gauged on a 41/64-in. choke with flowing tubing pressure of 350 psi. The drillsite is three miles southeast of Lindsay in a western Garvin County section that has seen production from 12 wells since 1953. Cumulative production from all wells in Section 19 totals 9.2 billion cu. ft. of gas and 151,000 bbl. of oil and condensate. 6 An agreement between Layne Christensen Co. and Presco Inc. will result in a coalbed-methane project in Osage County, Okla. The companies, with Mission Gas Partners LLC, will develop the project on about 114,000 acres obtained from the Osage Nation. More than 900 producing wells could be drilled during the next six years. According to Layne Christensen, Osage Nation tribal leaders consider this the largest single energy exploration and development project in Osage County since the development of the prolific Burbank oil field, discovered in 1920. 7 Newfield Exploration Mid-Continent Inc., Houston, is planning exploratory drilling in a nonproducing area of southern Hughes County, Okla. The company submitted a spacing case to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission asking to establish 320-acre laydown units for sections 33 and 34-4n-10e. Some 20 years ago, an isolated discovery was completed less than a mile away, in northern Coal County. The closest active production is less than four miles north in the Gerty East/Gerty Northeast Field area, where a seven-well Union Valley/Cromwell accumulation was discovered in 1982. 8 An exploratory well in southeastern Oklahoma has been production-tested after cutting over 200 ft. of reservoir rock in the Upper Jackfork. Drilled by Chesapeake Operating Inc. in eastern Latimer County, the #2-22 Weyerhaeuser, in Section 22-4n-21e, flowed 4.9 million cu. ft. of gas per day, according to KCS Energy Inc. Chesapeake has not yet released completion information on the 7,500-ft. venture. Houston-based KCS has a 32% working interest in the new producer. The new well extends production in Talihina Northwest Field 0.5-mile north. The field's closest well was completed by Chesapeake seven years ago at its #1-22 Weyerhaeuser, in Section 27-4n-21e. 9 Brigham Oil & Gas LP is drilling an ultradeep Anadarko Basin exploratory test, according to IHS Energy. The #2097 Mills Ranch is in Section 97, Block 13, H&GN survey, A-74, Wheeler County, Texas. It is designed to test formations through the Hunton to a depth of 24,500 ft. The drillsite is more than 0.5-mile northwest of a Hunton producer completed in December 2000 that confirmed the Fuller Field discovery. 10 Marshall Oil Corp., Oklahoma City, received a permit to drill a deep exploratory test in Grady County, Okla. The #1-24A Elliott Ott, Section 24-5n-7w, is projected to a measured depth of 20,350 ft. It will be drilled northeastward to a bottom-hole location in the east-southeast area of the section. The surface location is about 140 ft. northwest of the first deep prospect drilled by Marshall in the section, the #1-24 Elliott Ott in 24-5n-7w, drilled two years ago with no details released. The nearest deep producer with completion information is almost three miles away at the 19,455-ft. Marshall well, completed in 1999 in Harness Field. 11 Range Production Co., Fort Worth, Texas, scheduled a third wildcat in Roberts County, Texas. The #1-141 Courson Ranch, Section 141, Block C, G&M Survey, A-605, set up as a 10,000-ft. test, will evaluate formations through the Mississippian. The site is 1.5 miles southwest of Sinclair Oil & Gas Co.'s Lips Field discovery well, completed in 1949. About 1.5 miles northwest of the new Range wildcat are noncommercial Cleveland oil producers at about 7,500 ft., completed in the late 1990s. 12 Dallas-based Arkoma Production has begun drilling a southeastern Montague County, Texas, wildcat, the #1 G. Lynch Unit. The proposed 7,700-ft. test is on a 150-acre lease in the W.R. Bean Survey, A-105. The only previous drilling in the survey is less than a mile northeast, where Edwin L. Cox abandoned its #1 H.F. Sledge in 1954. Arkoma's venture is more than three miles north of the nearest well in Newart East Field. 13 The Woodlands, Texas-based Preston Exploration LLC began operations at an exploratory test in Andrews County, Texas, according to IHS Energy. The #1 University Lands "3-7," Section 7, Block 3, University Lands Survey, was drilling toward a proposed total depth of 14,500 ft. at last report. Nearby production is less than a mile northeast in University Block 3 Field.
