IHS Energy Group reports Oxy USA Inc., Tulsa, is drilling the #3 Presco A as part of its ongoing exploration and development program targeting Pennsylvanian Morrow and Mississippian reserves in the southwestern Kansas portion of the Hugoton Embayment. The wildcat in Section 25-27s-34w, Haskell County, has a target depth of 5,500 ft. in Mississippian St. Louis. Meanwhile, several miles to the east-southeast in Comanche County, San Clemente, Calif., independent Pelican Hill Oil & Gas Inc. is drilling its 6,200-ft. #1-13 Thompson in Section 13-32s-18w. The wildcat is projected to Cambro-Ordovician Arbuckle, primarily to evaluate Mississippian zones. 2 Oklahoma's McClain County is the site of a discovery completed by Cross Timbers Operating Co., Fort Worth, pumping 283 bbl. of oil and 156 bbl. of water, with 40,000 cu. ft. of gas, per day from Ordovician Oil Creek at 9,468-78 ft. The company's exploratory success is the #1-24 McAlister in Section 24-7n-3w. Two miles to the southwest, in Section 35-7n-3w, Cross Timbers set pipe at 10,143 ft. and is waiting on completion tools at the #1-35 J.M. Holdings that bottomed at 10,210 ft. The prospect, set up as a 10,300-ft. Oil Creek test, is a deeper-pool wildcat in the abandoned Washington South Field. 3 A discovery in LeFlore County, Okla., was confirmed when Oxley Petroleum Co., Tulsa, tested 6.45 million cu. ft. of gas per day on a 32/64-in. choke through perforations at 5,224-56 ft. in Morris at the #1 Capell in Section 19-8n-25e. The #1 Capell is a stepout three quarters of a mile east of the discovery, Oxley's #1 Monk in Section 24-8n-25e. According to IHS Energy Group, the discovery had an initial gauge of 573,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from 5,336-46 and 5,348-50 ft. in Morris. 4 Oklahoma's Potato Hills region is the location of three deep ventures scheduled by GHK Co. LLC, all in Pushmataha County. Projected depth is 21,000 ft. at the #1-7 Four Star staked by Oklahoma City-based GHK in Section 7-2n-20e. Second Repeated Stanley at about 17,500 ft. is the deepest of several formations scheduled to be evaluated. The company has plans to re-enter a 15,512-ft. dry hole- the #1-11 Cabe, Section 1-2n-20e-and deepen it to 18,000 ft. Drilling is under way at the #2-6 London in Section 6-2n-20e. The proposed 15,000-ft. probe originally was set up as a vertical test, but is now being drilled as a horizontal project. Both the #1-11 Cabe and #2-6 London are being drilled to evaluate overthrusted, subthrusted and repeated Atoka, Jackfork, Stanley and Big Fork. 5 Marathon Oil Co., Houston, has selected a drillsite on the eastern flank of Cement Field in Grady County, Okla., for a deep exploratory test. The new venture, the #1-17 Morris in Section 17-5n-8w, is to be drilled to approximately 16,350 ft. for tests of zones through Ordovician Bromide. 6 A Pennsylvanian Tonkawa deeper-pool opener has been completed by Jones Energy Ltd., Austin, in Hansford County, Texas. Jones' #2 White 9, Section 9, Block 3, SA&MG Survey, A-336, flowed 4.66 million cu. ft. of gas per day on a 48/64-in. choke through perforations at 5,334-54 ft. It's in an area of Permian gas wells. 7 Lakewood Operating Ltd., Midland, has completed the #1 A. Key, a discovery in Childress County, Texas, flowing 90 bbl. of oil and 70,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from Pennsylvanian Canyon Reef. IHS Energy Group notes the new producer flowed on an 11/64-in. choke from an openhole interval at 4,621-30 ft. It's in Section 412, Block H, W&NW Survey, A-585. 8 A 9,000-ft. exploratory test to Precambrian has been scheduled by Fortay Inc., Sunray, Texas, in Sherman County, Texas. It's the #1 Berk in Section 15, Block 1-C, GH&H Survey, A-45. The new location is in an area of production from Permian gas zones generally above 3,000 ft. 9 A Pennsylvanian Caddo Conglomerate exploratory well completed by Threshold Development Co., Fort Worth, in Jack County, Texas, had an initial flow gauge of 140 bbl. of oil, 250,000 cu. ft. of gas and 4 bbl. of water per day. The company used a 10/64-in. choke to test through perforations at 4,747-4,805 ft. The extension is in Section 1, SPRR Survey, A-579, a little more than a half-mile southeast of the closest Caddo production in Hoefle Field. 10 EOG Resources Inc., Houston, is drilling the #1 Panther Peak "7," a remote wildcat in Section 7, Block 1, H&TC Survey, A-2022, Pecos County, Texas. IHS Energy Group says the venture, scheduled to go to 8,700 ft., is nearly 10 miles south of West Ranch Field. Another exploratory venture slated for Pecos County is the Pure Resources LP #1 Neely "75" in the Athey East Field area. The Midland operator's test, which has a projected depth of 14,000 ft., is in Section 75, Block 8, H&GN Survey, A-231. The new location is within a half-mile northeast of 11,634-ft. Permian Wolfcamp production in the field. 11 A development well in Glasscock County, Texas' Cobra Field had an initial flow gauge of 328 bbl. of oil and 296,000 cu. ft. of gas per day at completion by Range Production Co., Fort Worth. The #2 Brunson "19" was tested on a 12/64-in. choke after Range perforated at 8,420-40 ft. in Wolfcamp.
