1 The first horizontal test of Ordovician Viola in Kansas is being drilled by Ensign Operating Co., Denver, in Comanche County. Drilling depth is below 2,600 ft. at the #1-17H Huck in Section 17-31s-20w, reports IHS Energy Group. True vertical depth is expected to be about 5,820 ft., at a projected measured depth of 10,496 ft. The venture is near the abandoned one-well Buzzard Creek Field, which produced oil from Viola. 2 An extension of Excelsior Field in Sebastian County, Ark., flowed 2.47 million cu. ft. of gas per day from Pennsylvanian Nichols upon completion by Freedom Energy Inc., Fort Smith. The #1 Barnes, Section 6-5n-31w, was tested on a 1-in. choke through perforations at 5,181-88 ft. It's a mile from two producers on the southwestern side of the field. 3 SEECO Inc., Fayetteville, is drilling toward a projected depth of 8,000 ft. at the #1-15 Standridge, a remote wildcat in Section 15-5n-23w, Yell County, Ark. The company plans to test Pennsylvanian zones through Lower Borum. There is no existing production within about 10 miles of the venture. 4 A Criner Hills Uplift Siluro-Devonian Hunton pool was established by Chaparral Energy Inc. near Enville West Field in Love County, Okla., with the completion of the #2-25 B&W USA flowing 312 bbl. of oil and 226,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. IHS Energy Group says the company used a 24/64-in. choke to test through three sets of perforations-at 5,628-42 ft., 5,664-86 and 5,703-09 ft.-at the discovery in Section 25-6s-2e. 5 Brigham Exploration Co., Austin, Texas, reports it is completing a Pennsylvanian Springer Channel discovery at the #2-17 Price in Section 17-15n-11w, Blaine County, Okla. Springer yielded a flow of 5.56 million cu. ft. of gas and 450 bbl. of condensate per day during initial testing. The well, which was drilled to a depth of approximately 10,300 ft., encountered 41 net ft. of pay. Brigham says its 3-D seismic interpretative mapping indicates the channel sand reservoir in this discovery covers approximately 460 acres. Brigham operates the well and has a 71% working interest and 57% net revenue interest. 6 The Vastar Resources Inc. #6-15 Yourman, an exploratory well in Oklahoma's Latimer County, flowed 3.15 million cu. ft. of gas per day from Ordovician Simpson at completion. IHS Energy Group says Houston-based Vastar's discovery, in Section 15-5n-18e, is producing through perforations at 12,550-86 ft. It's in an area of production from Pennsylvanian zones in Wilburton Field. 7 An exploratory well completed by GHK Co. LLC, Oklahoma City, in Pushmataha County, Okla., flowed 9.703 million cu. ft. of gas per day from two Lower Mississippian Jackfork intervals at 4,670-85 and 4,800-10 ft. The company tested the #1-1 Wigington, Section 1-2n-19e, on a 32/64-in. choke. The well is the westernmost producer to date in GHK's Jackfork delineation program in the Potato Hills area, being nearly a mile from the nearest producing well. 8 A wildcat projected to 20,650 ft. has been staked by Wagner & Brown Ltd., Midland, Texas, at the #1 McKenzie in Section 25-5n-12w, Caddo County, Okla. The company's venture is designed to evaluate Ordovician Viola at an estimated depth of 17,050 ft. and Bromide at 18,200 ft., and Cambro-Ordovician Arbuckle at about 19,750 ft. 9 A deeper-pool opener in Carol Ann Field in Texas' Stonewall County-the Pryor Petroleum Corp. #1 Albritton-had an initial potential of 160 bbl. of oil and 90,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. The Wichita Falls independent's well, in Section 151, BBB&C Survey, A-448, is producing from Pennsylvanian Bend, perforated at 5,954-62 ft. 10 LCS Production Co., Abilene, gauged a flow of 99.3 bbl. of oil and 24,000 cu. ft. of gas per day at the #1 Weston, a Pennsylvanian Canyon Reef discovery in Taylor County, Texas. According to IHS Energy Group, the well flowed on a 10/64-in. choke from an openhole interval at 4,484-98 ft. It's in Section 1, Block 6, T&P Survey, near a 5,450-ft. Pennsylvanian Palo Pinto well in Weaver Springs Field. 11 The workover by Midland independent Discovery Operating Inc. of a DAI Field well in Upton County, Texas, resulted in a flow of 578 bbl. of oil, 448,000 cu. ft. of gas and 52 bbl. of water per day. Permian Wolfcamp, perforated between 9,653-9,754 ft., is the producing formation at the #2 Firefly "B" in Section 26, Block 42, T5S, T&P Survey, A-1480. Testing was carried out using a 27/64-in. choke. Discovery originally completed the well a year ago producing from a deeper Wolfcamp zone at 10,011-10,147 ft. 12 Texas' Schleicher County is the site of a horizontal Canyon Reef producer finaled by Parallel Petroleum Corp. flowing 372 bbl. of oil, 138,000 cu. ft. of gas and one bbl of water per day. Parallel, of Midland, completed the #3107 Hulldale (Penn Reef) Unit on a 24/64-in. choke from an openhole interval between 5,280 ft. and 5,800 ft., total depth. The Hulldale Field well was originally completed in January as a vertical producer flowing 192 bbl. of oil and 10,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from Canyon Reef at 5,284-5.334 ft. 13 John L. Cox, Midland, drilled to a depth of 28,798 ft. and is running liner at the #1 State Robbins-Kirk, a wildcat in Pecos County, Texas, according to IHS Energy Group. The wildcat, where operations began in February 1999, is in Section 32, Block 126, T&STL Survey, A-7538. The nearest production, from 13,081-13,664 ft. in Ordovician Ellenburger, is nearly a mile and a half to the east in Puckett Field. 14 Another Midland operator, BTA Oil Producers, is nearing 12,500 ft. at the #1 Andros South "7," a 17,500-ft. exploratory test it's drilling in Section 7, Block 55, T4S, T&P Survey, A-796, Reeves County, Texas. About a mile to the southeast, an Aylesworth Field well was completed in 1978 as a Pennsylvanian gas well producing from 17,068-88 ft. Elsewhere in Reeves County, Helmerich & Payne Inc., Tulsa, gauged a flow of 10.156 million cu. ft. of gas and 17 bbl. of water per day at the #9-1 Appleton in Dixieland Field. Perforations are at 16,451-80 ft. in Pennsylvanian Upper Atoka at the well, in Section 9, Block C20, PSL (J.E. Dobbs) Survey, A-4162. 15 Projected depth is 20,000 ft. at a Winkler County, Texas, wildcat staked by Titan Resources I Inc., Midland, at the #1 Davis. The new venture, that's still a location, is in Section 21, Block 75, PSL (M.M. Leeman) Survey, A-1688. About a mile and three quarters southeast of the #1 Davis is an Evetts Field well that produced gas from 17,631-18,132 ft in Silurian and 20,454-20,838 ft. in Ellenburger. There's also gas and condensate production from Pennsylvanian Morrow at 15,048-54 ft. at an Evetts Field well a bit closer to the new location. 16 Ricks Exploration Inc., Oklahoma City, re-established production in Azalea East Field, Midland County, Texas, with the completion of the #1 Brunson "42" flowing 231 bbl. of oil and 879,000 cu. ft. of gas per day. Pennsylvanian Strawn, perforated between 10,178-10,268 ft., is the producing formation at the well, in Section 42, Block 36, T2S, T&P Survey, A-943. Testing was done on a 7/64-in. choke. 17 A Lea County, N.M., exploratory test completed several months ago by Oklahoma City independent Louis Dreyfus Natural Gas Corp. was tested for an initial gauge of 230 bbl. of oil, 225,000 cu. ft. of gas and 158 bbl. of water per day. IHS Energy Group notes details were just recently released on the Wolfcamp discovery, the #2 Toro "27" State Com that's producing through perforations between 10,620-11,010 ft. The well is in Section 27-19s-35e, nearly a half mile northwest of a Morrow discovery completed by the operator last fall on the same lease producing oil and gas from 12,888-97 ft. 18 Chi Operating Inc., Midland, tested the #1 Coal Train-Federal Com, a Crow Flats Southeast Field well in Eddy County, N.M., flowing 1.364 million cu. ft. of gas, 38 bbl. of condensate and 6 bbl. of water per day. Located in Section 10-17s-28e, the development well was tested on a 15/64-in. choke through perforations at 9,870-99 ft. in Morrow.
