Painted Pony Petroleum Ltd. has reported test results for its first Montney horizontal well on the Beg Block in northeastern British Columbia. The #1 well was drilled to 2,267 m (7,438 ft), with a 1,800 m (5,906 ft) true vertical depth. It was tested flowing 1.9 Mboe/d, 269,010 cu. m (9.5 MMcf) of gas and an estimated 340 bbl of liquids. The liquids were 60% condensate and 40% NGL. It was tested on a 5/8-in. choke with a flowing pressure of 1,625 psi. During an eight-hour test, the well flowed approximately 1.7 Mbbl/d of load water.

QEP Resources Inc. has completed an extended-lateral Haynesville Shale well in the Alabama Bend Field. Located in Section 33-16n-9w of Bienville Parish, La., the #1 Ken Ryan 4-9-16H well flowed 934,739 cu. m/d (33.01 MMcf/d) of gas. Production is from perforations at 3,910 m to 7,104 m (12,827 ft to 23,307 ft). Gauged on a 32/64-in. choke, the flowing casing pressure was 7,250 psi. The 7,144-m (23,437-ft) horizontal well bottomed about 3 km (2 miles) to the south in Section 16-15n-9w with a true vertical depth of 3,801 m (12,469 ft).

Cuadrilla Resources Ltd. has completed drilling a horizontal well at its exploration site at Preston New Road in Lancashire, England. The #1-Preston New Road well was targeting Lower Bowland Shale at a depth of approximately 2,700 m (8,858 ft) with an 800-m (2,625-ft) lateral. Fracturing and testing are planned after drilling the second well, which also is targeting Bowland Shale. The company has applied with the government to fracture the first two horizontal wells in 2018. Cuadrilla will run an initial flow test of both wells for about six months.

Apache Corp. announced an oil discovery on Block 9/18a Area-W in the U.K. sector of the North Sea. The #1 Garten’s exploration well is on the Garten prospect and targeted a downthrown structural closure and encountered more than 213 m (700 ft) of net oil pay in stacked, high-quality Jurassic-aged sandstone reservoirs. The recoverable resource is expected to exceed 10 MMbbl of light oil.

Norway

Lundin Petroleum AB announced results from Luno II appraisal well #16/4-11 in production license 359 on the Utsira High in the Norwegian North Sea. The appraisal well is south of the original Luno II discovery well and is the fifth well on the Luno II oil discovery. The appraisal well encountered a gross oil column of 22 m (72 ft) in Triassic sandstone with very good reservoir quality. The entire reservoir, including the water zone, consists of sandstones with some conglomeratic sandstone intervals with a total thickness of about 400 m (1,312 ft). Extensive data acquisition and sampling have been carried out in the reservoir, including conventional coring and fluid sampling. Based on these results, the gross resource range for the Luno II discovery is 40 MMboe to 100 MMboe.

Norway

Faroe Petroleum announced preliminary results of the #6506/9-4 S Fogelberg appraisal well in the Norwegian Sea. It was drilled to 4,738 m (15,545 ft) and was targeting the gas- and condensate- bearing Middle Jurassic Garn and Ile to assess the lateral and downdip extent of the original discovery at well #6506/9-2 S. The appraisal well hit 62.5 m (205 ft) of gross hydrocarbon-bearing Garn reservoir. Gas also was logged in Ile. Testing has confirmed gas and condensate in a sand-rich reservoir. Drillstem testing is planned, which will confirm potential recoverable volumes.

OMV reported two discoveries at the Hades and Iris prospects in the Norwegian Sea Block production license (PL) 644B. The Hades exploration well #6506/11-10 was targeting Cretaceous (Hades) and Jurassic (Iris). Preliminary cores, wireline logs, fluid sampling and pressure data show that each well has encountered gas/condensate-bearing reservoirs within both prospects. The Hades test was drilled to 3,932 m (12,900 ft) and encountered about 35 m (115 ft) of gross gas/condensate column within Cretaceous Lange, of which 15 m (49 ft) are net reservoir sandstones with moderate-to-good reservoir quality. Preliminary gross volumes of recoverable hydrocarbons at Hades are estimated to be 19 MMboe to 113 MMboe. The Iris test was drilled to 4,223 m (13,855 ft) and hit a 218-m (715-ft) sandstone interval in Jurassic Garn, with a 93-m (305-ft) column of gas/condensate. Within the gas/condensate column, net reservoir has been estimated at 85 m (279 ft), consisting of sandstones of moderate-to-excellent reservoir quality. Pressure data indicate that the Hades and Iris prospects are separate hydrocarbon accumulations. Preliminary gross volumes of recoverable hydrocarbons for Iris are estimated to be 19 MMboe to 132 MMboe.

Niger

The first well of a three-well drilling campaign has been spud by Savannah Petroleum at #1-Bushiya in Niger. The venture is in the R3 portion of the R3/ R4 PSC Area in the Agadem Rift Basin and will evaluate potential oil pay in Eocene Sokor Alternances and in Eocene-Oligocene Upper Sokor. The assessed total mean, unrisked recoverable resource at Bushiya is 36 MMbbl of oil. The well’s planned depth is 2,114 m (6,936 ft), with downhole logging planned.

Gabon

An offshore Gabon presalt discovery was announced by Eni at exploration well #1-Ivela. The well is in the Luna Muetse (E13) Block in the Gabon section of the Lower Congo Basin in 2,665 m (8,743 ft) of water. It was drilled to 6,200 m (20,341 ft) and encountered a 78-m (256-ft) gross oil column. Additional testing is planned.

Egypt

A gas discovery was announced by SDX Energy at exploration well #1X-Ibn Yunus in Egypt’s South Disouq concession. The well was drilled to 2,764 m (9,068 ft) and hit 31 m (101 ft) of net conventional gas pay in Abu Madi, which had an average porosity in the pay section of 28.5% with good reservoir quality. It will be completed as a producer in the Abu Madi section and then tested after the rig has moved off location. After testing, it will be connected to local infrastructure.
