Don Santa, president of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA), is set to retire next month after nearly two decades leading the trade organization.
Since taking the reins, Santa has led INGAA, an advocate for natural gas pipeline operators in North America, through several periods of transition in the energy industry. Under his leadership, INGAA has accomplished multiple reauthorizations of the Pipeline Safety Act and also has shaped regulatory policy affecting interstate natural gas pipelines, according to a Jan. 23 news release.
In a statement, INGAA Chairman Stanley Chapman III thanked Santa for his years of service and for advancing U.S. energy policy.
“Under his leadership, INGAA played a critical role in advancing the priorities of our industry and the board is committed to building on all of the success that Don helped us achieve,” said Chapman, who also serves as executive vice president at TC Energy Corp. and president the company’s U.S. natural gas pipelines division.
Today, INGAA is comprised of 27 members representing the vast majority of the interstate natural gas transmission pipeline companies in the U.S. and Canada. The organization’s members operate almost 200,000 miles of pipeline, according to its website.
Santa’s retirement from the organization will take effect on Feb. 15. In the interim, the INGAA board of directors appointed Alex Oehler to serve as president while the board conducts a national search to fill the position on a permanent basis.
Oehler, who currently leads TC Energy’s U.S. federal government relations team, served in a variety of government and policy roles for over 20 years, the release said.
“As INGAA embarks on its next chapter, we look forward to working with Alex to ensure that we remain focused on the issues that matter most to America’s interstate natural gas pipeline industry,” Chapman added in his statement.
