Halliburton is working “diligently” to assess the cause and potential impact of a reported cyber incident, a company spokesperson told Hart Energy on Aug. 22.
“We have activated our preplanned response plan and are working internally, and with leading external experts, to remediate the issue,” the spokesperson said via email.
Reuters earlier reported that the attack has not impacted any energy services, according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
DOE was coordinating with interagency partners on the reported cyberattack, the spokesperson said. Halliburton on Aug. 21 confirmed it was experiencing an issue affecting certain company systems.
The attack appeared to impact business operations at the company's north Houston campus, as well as some global connectivity networks, Reuters reported, citing an unnamed source who declined to be identified because they were not authorized to speak on the record.
