Halliburton Co. and Rhino Resources delivered two exploration wells offshore Namibia in Block 2914 within petroleum exploration license (PEL) 85, according to a May 15 press release.

These exploration wells, located in the Orange Basin, are the first to be completed entirely from in-country infrastructure through Halliburton’s operational bases in Namibia’s Walvis Bay, Swakopmund and Lüderitz cities, the release stated.

Rhino is the operator of Block 2914 with a 42.5% stake, while Azure Energy, co-owned by BP and Eni, also holds 42.5% interest. The National Petroleum Corp. of Namibia holds a 10% interest in the block and Korres Investments owns the remaining 5% interest.

Rhino reported finding oil in PEL 85 with its Capricornus 1-X exploration well on April 24.

“This success is an example of what’s possible when world-class technology, local collaboration and a shared long-term vision come together,” said Antoine Berel, vice president, Halliburton Sub-Saharan Africa. “Our newly established infrastructure across Namibia enabled this discovery, which will help unlock Namibia’s energy potential and build the capacity to support the country’s future as an energy hub in Africa.”
