Halliburton has launched EarthStar 3DX, the industry's first 3D horizontal look-ahead resistivity service, providing operators with geological insights into horizontal wells up to 50 ft before penetration by the bit.

The real-time data allows operators to identify hazards and make informed decisions, said Jim Collins, vice president of Sperry Drilling at Halliburton. They can adjust well trajectories to minimize risk, improve wellbore placement and increase reservoir contact, he said.

The service offers detailed conventional resistivity readings that support in-depth analysis of the reservoir, according to Halliburton’s website. It measures phase shift and attenuation resistivity over three spacings at two frequencies using an array of electromagnetic sensors and a 24-inch crossed-antenna spacing.
