Stephenson Gas Unit in Orange County that flowed 5.316 million cu. ft. of gas and 285 bbl. of condensate per day at completion. The confirmation yielded the flow on a 13/64-in. choke through perforations at 10,280-90 ft. in Oligocene Hackberry. It's a few feet southeast of the discovery, the #1 Stephenson in the same survey, recently completed by Tyler independent Lake Ronel, flowing 5.794 million cu. ft. of gas, 338 bbl. of condensate and seven bbl. of water per day. 5 EOG Resources Inc., Houston, is drilling toward a projected depth of 7,400 ft. at the #1 Carrell, a remote wildcat in Johnson CSL Survey, A-437, Johnson County, Texas. IHS Energy Group says the closest production is nearly seven miles northwest in Dubois Field. 6 The first horizontal well completed in Black Bayou Field, Nacogdoches County, Texas, is the Pedeco Inc. #1H Swanton that yielded 4.44 million cu. ft. of gas and 326 bbl. of water per day. It's producing from an openhole interval in Cretaceous James Lime between 8,720-13,912 ft. Beeville-based Pedeco used an 18/64-in. choke to test the well, in Pedro Esparza Survey A-28. 7 Ranger Investments Inc., Longview, drilled to a total depth of 11,500 ft. and set production casing at 11,146 ft. at a remote wildcat in Jackson Parish, La. Ranger's prospect is the #2 Topper in Section 12-15n-1e. The venture is just a few feet south of the #1 Topper that was abandoned at a total depth of 10,658 ft. last January. IHS Energy Group reports the new test is nearly six miles east of 6,730-ft. James Lime gas production in Chatham Field and about eight miles southeast of 11,062-ft. Jurassic Cotton Valley gas production in Eros Field. 8 Completion work is under way at The Meridian Resource Corp. #1 State Lease 15223 in Section 14-12s-5w, Cameron Parish, La. The Houston independent logged apparent pay in Marginulina howie and Camerina, with a productive interval of about 142 gross ft. and 108 net ft. of pay. The 18,006-ft. prospect is being completed at around 16,500 ft. A few feet southwest, Meridian has staked the #2 State Lease 15223 in Section 14. The #2 is scheduled to be drilled to 19,000 ft. to test a larger fault block adjacent to the #1. The indicated producer offsets to the southwest an abandoned 14,500-ft. Lakeside Field test in Section 13 that yielded gas from 13,126-37 ft. and 13,673-79 ft. 9 A flow gauge of 17.8 million cu. ft. of gas and 1,260 bbl. of condensate per day has been credited to the #1 OCS-G-17237, a discovery completed by Unocal on East Breaks Block 205 in 1,100 ft. of water. Houston-based Panaco Inc., holder of a 25% working interest in the venture, reports the well, located on the Pilsner Prospect, was tested on a 25/64-in. choke. The venture was drilled to a total depth of 9,782 ft., encountering 25 ft. of net pay. Unocal may drill up to seven tests on Pilsner. 10 BP Exploration & Oil Inc. has made an oil discovery on Mississippi Canyon Block 696, on its Blind Faith Prospect, reports IHS Energy Group. The #1 OCS-G-16641 was drilled to a total depth deeper than 25,000 ft. in 6,937 ft. of water. It was the first venture in a five-year contract with Diamond Offshore Inc.'s newly built Ocean Confidence semisubmersible. Block 696 and adjacent Block 695 make up the Blind Faith Prospect. BP has a 77.5% interest in the prospect, while Texaco holds the remaining 22.5%. 11 El Dorado, Ark.-based Murphy Oil Corp. says it encountered more than 400 net ft. of pay in two zones at the #1 OCS-G-21791, a discovery that bottomed on Green Canyon Block 339. The discovery, known as the Front Runner South Prospect, was drilled to a total depth of 21,359 ft. (20,072 ft. total vertical depth) in 3,330 ft. of water. Murphy notes the reserve estimate is now expected to exceed the predrill projection of 40 million to 60 million bbl. of oil equivalent. Murphy owns a 37.5% interest in the discovery and serves as operator. Partners are Dominion Exploration & Production Inc., 37.5%, and Spinnaker Exploration Co., 25%. Murphy notes the Front Runner partnership has 13 contiguous blocks under lease on which several drillable prospects have already been identified. 12 An exploratory well drilled by Oklahoma City-based Kerr-McGee Corp.'s wholly owned subsidiary, Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corp., on Garden Banks Block 667 (known as the Durango Prospect) encountered nearly 200 ft. of net gas pay that could increase estimated reserves for the Gunnison sub-basin by about 120 billion cu. ft. of gas equivalent. The discovery, the #1 OCS-G-17406, is in 3,150 ft. of water adjacent to Gunnison Field. Kerr-McGee says Gunnison reserves were previously estimated to be in the range of 150- to 250 million bbl. of oil equivalent. The well is operated by Kerr-McGee, with 50% interest. Partners are Nexen Petroleum USA Inc., with 30% interest, and Cal Dive International Inc., 20%. 13 Bean Resources Inc., Lafayette, La., drilled to 18,500 ft. in sidetracked hole and has run production liner to that depth to test Jurassic Smackover at the #1 Beard 29-7 in Section 29-8n-7w, Wayne County, Miss. The Southeastern Oil Review notes the wildcat was drilled to 18,500 ft. in the original hole and blew out in February while casing was being run, destroying the rig. After the flame was extinguished, the well was plugged back and sidetracked at 16,946 ft. 14 Chigger Field in Mississippi's Wilkinson County was established when River Production Co.
