1 HS Resources Inc., San Francisco, made an Oligocene Hackberry discovery in Chambers County, Texas, that flowed 2.91 million cu. ft. of gas and 237 bbl. of condensate per day, reports IHS Energy Group. The company's #1 Brown was tested at 9,828-33 ft. on a 10/64-in. choke. The successful exploratory well is in HT&B #89 Survey, A-143. It's a little more than a half-mile west of an Anahuac Southwest Field well completed by the company in 1998 flowing gas and condensate from Oligocene Frio at 9,939-10,004 ft. 2 Texas' Jasper County is the location of a wildcat-the #1 Vastar Bonner-where Coastal Oil & Gas Corp. set production pipe at a total depth of 14,850 ft. Houston-based Coastal is waiting on completion tools at the prospect in Salvador Castillo Survey, A-6. The test is about a half-mile northeast of Eocene Wilcox gas production from 10,320-30 and 10,817-29 ft. in Bessmay Field. 3 Comanche Energy Inc., Tulsa, says it has acquired an approximate 700-acre position in the Brookshire Dome area of Waller County, Texas, approximately 50 miles west of Houston. The company notes the Brookshire Dome has been one of the region's hottest plays over the last two years, with wells making up to 500 bbl. of oil per day from depths of less than 3,000 ft. Several of the wells also are producing more than one million cu. ft. of gas per day in association with the oil production. According to Comanche, one lease in the area has yielded more than one million bbl. of oil over the last 24 months. The play is multipay, with as many as eight pay zones encountered while drilling to 3,300 ft. Comanche is acquiring additional acreage in the Brookshire Dome area and is concurrently negotiating with landowners on drilling locations. 4 A modest Oligocene Frio discovery, one that flowed 531,000 cu. ft. of gas, 18 bbl. of condensate and 6 bbl. of water per day, has been completed by Richman Petroleum Corp., Dallas, in Kenedy County, Texas. It's the #1 Armstrong in J.F. Balli Survey, A-3. Richman used an 11/64-in. choke to test the formation through perforations at 9,979-87 ft. About 6 miles to the northeast in the same survey, Richman is set to drill to 18,000 ft. at the #3 Armstrong. The deeper-pool venture is in the midst of 9,000 to 12,000-ft. production. 5 Dallas independent The Greyrock Corp. is set to drill to 3,500 ft. at the #1 Fasken, a remote wildcat in Red River County, Texas, says IHS Energy Group. The venture is in MEP&PRR Survey, A-637. There are no producing wells within 6 miles of the drillsite. 6 Union County in southern Arkansas is slated to get a wildcat that's scheduled to be drilled to 9,050 ft. to Jurassic Smackover by Cenco Inc., El Dorado. The new test is the #1 Brinker in Section 29-19s16w. The drillsite is about a mile east of Smackover oil production in Stateline Field. 7 Key Operating Co., Lafayette, La., tested a flow of oil at the rate of 793 bbl. per day on an 8/64-in. choke during an 18-hr. production test at a new-field opener in Section 31-10s-1e, Acadia Parish, La., reports major interest owner Robo Enterprises Inc., Bowling Green, Ky. The discovery is the #1 Patrick D. Leleux that bottomed at 13,000 ft. Production has settled to a flow of 325 bbl. of oil and 150,000 cu. ft. of gas per day on a 6/64-in. choke. Lower Camerina 2 Sand at approximately 12,666 ft. is the formation being tested. 8 Three gas wells with high rates of flow have been completed by Houston-based Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. in Louisiana, including two discoveries on Continental Land & Fur (CL&F) acreage in Terrebonne Parish. IHS Energy Group reports one of the discoveries, the #1 CL&F 24 in Section 24-17s-13e, yielded 17.2 million cu. ft. of gas and 340 bbl. of condensate per day from 105 ft. of Hollywood Sand. The discovery, on Cabot's Bon Ton prospect near Turtle Bayou North Field, bottomed at 13,355 ft. and has pipe set at 12,760 ft. The other new-field opener is the #2 CL&F 58, Section 3-18s-15e, on Cabot's Augen prospect. It flowed 15.4 million cu. ft. of gas and 108 bbl. of condensate per day on a 21/64-in. choke. Pipe is set at 13,248 ft., two ft. off bottom. The third gas well completed by Cabot is the #1-87 BINVUA, a Belle Isle Field well in irregular Section 28-17s-10e, St. Mary Parish. It gave up a combined flow of 16.4 million cu. ft. per day from two Miocene zones-11.2 million cu. ft. per day on an 18/64-in. choke from 10,470-10,554 ft. and 5.2 million cu. ft. per day from 10,724-54 ft. 9 A 13,600-ft. Bol Mex 3 producer was completed recently by Hallwood Energy Corp. in Lafayette Parish, La., flowing at sustained rates of approximately 25.4 million cu. ft. of gas, 565 bbl. of condensate and 30 bbl. of fresh water per day, according to an announcement by the Denver-based company. It's the #1 Martin Alfred Heirs, Section 5-10s-4e, that's producing from 13,474-93 ft. Hallwood, as operator, owns a 37.4% working and 27.1% revenue interest in the well. 10 The Meridian Resource Corp., Houston, says work being carried out in Thornwell Field, Jeff Davis Parish, La., continues to be successful, with the #28-1 Guidry being the latest well placed into production.
