1 Production was reestablished on Mustang Island Block 883S when LLOG Exploration Offshore Inc., Metairie, La., completed the #1 (ST) Mustang Island Block 883S flowing 10.751 million cu. ft. of gas and 397 bbl. of condensate per day. IHS Energy Group reports the company used a 20/64-in. choke to test through perforations in Oligocene at 11,390-11,438 ft. at the well, offshore Texas' Nueces County. 2 Coastal Oil & Gas Corp., Houston, drilled to a total depth of 19,250 ft. at the #1 Houts to set a depth record in Hidalgo County, Texas. However, Coastal has plugged back to 16,632 ft. and completed the discovery flowing 4.044 million cu. ft. of gas, 24 bbl. of condensate and 2,280 bbl. of water per day from Oligocene Vicksburg. The well, in Manuel Gomez Survey, A-63, was gauged on a 20/64-in. choke through perforations between 13,838-15,467 ft. Within a quarter mile to the southeast, Coastal has set pipe on bottom at 15,915 ft. and is waiting on a completion rig at the #1 Cook Vannie Trusts. 3 Texas' Kleberg County is the site of a discovery completed by Maguire Oil Co., Dallas, flowing 3.037 million cu. ft. of gas, 74 bbl. of condensate and 3 bbl. of water per day, says IHS Energy Group. The new well-the #1 Sullivan "DD" in Julian Harby #494 Survey, A-252-flowed on a 10/64-in. choke from Lobo, perforated at 8,180-92 ft. 4 Houston-based Esenjay Exploration Inc. says it tested a flow of 6.5 million cu. ft. of gas per day on a 12/64-in. choke at its Eocene Wilcox discovery, the #4 Riser in Edward Ramirez Survey, A-393, Live Oak County, Texas. Esenjay notes the 13,320-ft. well was drilled to test the Wilcox sands in a previously unproduced, geopressured fault block updip to its #1 Riser within its Mikeska 3-D seismic project area. Esenjay, as operator, increased its working interest in the Mikeska Project from 19% to 28.375% by purchasing a minority working interest earlier this year. Ocean Energy Inc., Houston, holds a 55% working interest in the well. 5 Union Pacific Resources Inc., Fort Worth, and Magnum Hunter Resources Inc., Irving, Texas, jointly have announced the results of a confirmation well, and extension, of their Mossy Grove Field discovery in Texas. The new well, the 19,901-ft. #1 Dickens A-231 in Jeremiah Worsham Survey, A-231, Madison County, flowed 12.5 million cu. ft. of gas and 330 bbl. of condensate per day on a 30/64-in. choke from one horizontal segment extending more than 8,596 ft. in Cretaceous Glen Rose. It's across the county line from recent Glen Rose completions in Walker County. UPR, operator of the drilling phase, owns a 75% working interest and Magnum Hunter has the remaining 25% in this well and the surrounding 2,000-acre unit. Magnum Hunter's wholly owned subsidiary, Gruy Petroleum Management Co., is the operator of the production phase. 6 Two new producers have been finaled by Manti Operating Co., Corpus Christi, in the Thornwell Field area of Jefferson Davis Parish, La., flowing a combined 29.5 million cu. ft. of gas per day from Marg. Idi Sand, according to interest owner The Meridian Resource Corp., Houston. Meridian says the #33-2 Lacassane, Section 33-11s-4w, tested 14.9 million cu. ft. per day on an 18/64-in. choke through perforations between 11,732-11,859 ft. The #16-1 Guidry, Section 16-11s-4w, yielded 14.6 million cu. ft. per day on a 20/64-in. choke through perforations between 11,506-11,608 ft. in a separate accumulation in the Marg. Idi Sand. Meridian and its partners Manti Operating Co. and Enron North America Corp., Houston, who each hold approximately 30% of the working interests in the area, are drilling below 10,000 ft. at the nearby #28-1 Guidry, Section 28-11n-4w, that's scheduled to go to 12,000 ft. 7 Testing of Oligocene Frio resulted in a flow of 140 bbl. of oil and 2.701 million cu. ft. of gas at a well being completed by Mayne & Mertz Inc. in the East Moss Lake Field area of Calcasieu Parish, La. According to the Southeastern Oil Review, the #1 Braden is on the south edge of the town of Lake Charles in Section 5-11s-9w. Frio, perforated at 9,684-9,716 ft., yielded the flow on an 18/64-in. choke. 8 Dominion Exploration & Production Inc., New Orleans, reports confirmation of commercial quantities of hydrocarbons at its Devils Tower discovery on Mississippi Canyon Block 773. This confirmation is the #3 OCS-G-19996, which is presently operated by Mariner Energy Inc., Houston. Drilled to a total depth of 15,000 ft. below sea level in 5,610 ft. of water, the appraisal well encountered hydrocarbons in three zones in a separate fault block northeast of the discovery, the #2 well on the block. The new test is still being evaluated and a sidetrack well will be drilled. Dominion owns a 60% working interest in the project and will assume operatorship after the drilling and evaluation of the #3 well and sidetrack. Mariner has a 20% working interest. Other partners are Irving, Texas-based Pioneer Natural Resources Inc. (15.83375%) and Denver independent Westport Oil & Gas Co. Inc. (4.16625%). Also in the Mississippi Canyon area, on Block 582, the Murphy Oil Corp. #2 OCS-G-16614 found three reservoirs totaling more than 250 ft. (true vertical thickness) of net oil pay, reports 15% working interest-owner Callon Petroleum Co., Natchez, Miss. Two of the reservoirs had not previously been encountered. This is the fourth and final well drilled to test the Medusa discovery on blocks 538 and 582. El Dorado, Ark.-based Murphy, the operator, owns a 60% working interest, while the remaining 25% is held by British-Borneo Petroleum Inc., Houston. 9 A discovery made by Texaco E&P Inc. on its Champlain Prospect on Atwater Valley Block 63 was drilled to a total depth of 23,540 ft. and sidetracked to a depth of 24,989 ft., according to IHS Energy Group. Initial results at the #1 OCS-G-13198, in 4,385 ft. of water, indicate the presence of high-quality reservoir sands with a total net pay of 140 ft. Texaco owns a 75% interest in the block and Agip Petroleum Co. Inc., Houston, holds the remaining 25%. 10 Kerr-McGee Corp., Oklahoma City, says it has made another oil discovery in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico, on its Gunnison Prospect (Garden Banks Block 668). The l7,000-ft. discovery, the #1 OCS-G-17407 in 3,150 ft. of water, encountered approximately 275 ft. of pay in three main zones. The Gunnison sub-basin includes Garden Banks blocks 667, 668 and 669, all operated by Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Kerr-McGee Corp., with 50% interest. Partners in the blocks are (30%) and Cal Dive International Inc. (20%). 11 Elsewhere in the Garden Banks area, Mariner Energy Inc. has begun production-at a daily rate of about 40 million cu. ft. of gas-at its Apia discovery on Block 73. IHS Energy Group notes the 4,500-ft. #1 OCS-G-20776 was drilled in 745 ft. of water. Mariner has a 100% interest in the well, which encountered 102 ft. of gas pay in a single productive interval. Meanwhile, Mariner has tested its Black Widow discovery on Ewing Bank Block 966 flowing 6,500 bbl. of oil and 6.3 million cu. ft. of gas per day on a 32/64-in. choke. The #1 (ST) OCS-G-18184 was drilled in 1998 and suspended at a total depth of 11,950 ft. Water depth is 1,900 ft. Mariner logged 55 net ft. of light oil pay in the well's primary objective. 12 Blue Dolphin Energy Co., owner of an 8.9% after payout reversionary working interest, reports Spinnaker Exploration Co. has made a gas discovery at the #2 OCS-G-15781 on High Island Block A-7. The well was drilled to a measured total depth of 14,475 ft. (14,128 ft., true vertical depth) and evaluated three productive Miocene Robulus L sands. The well, which contained a total productive interval of 63 ft. of high quality gas bearing sands, is being completed. Spinnaker is operator of the block and owns a 53.44% working interest and 44% net revenue interest. Both Blue Dolphin and Spinnaker are based in Houston. 13 Completion work is under way at two exploratory ventures in Jones County, Miss., reports the Southeastern Oil Review. Laurel, Miss., independent J.R. Pounds Inc. pumped 200 bbl. of oil per day at the #1 J.R. Pounds while testing Jurassic Smackover in a new fault segment for Pool Creek Field. The apparent new-pool opener in Section 22-9n-10w is being tested through a series of perforations between 13,129-13,240 ft. EOG Resources Inc., Tyler, Texas, has perforated and is evaluating shows found in Lower Cretaceous Hosston at the #1 Marion Walker in Section 6-7n-10w. The prospect had a projected depth of 17,000 ft. However, drilling was stopped at 16,515 ft. and pipe is set at that depth. 14 Also in Jones County, Roundtree & Associates Inc., Jackson, has completed its sixth producer, and the one with the highest initial gauge, in Parker Creek Field. IHS Energy Group reports the # 1 Allar Co. 32-6, Section 32-7n-13w, flowed 1,086 bbl. of oil and 175,000 cu. ft. of gas per day from three intervals in Hosston between 14,198-14,318 ft. Roundtree used a 20/64-in. choke on the test.
